Position Summary: The Solar Civil Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed civil estimates for utility-scale solar projects. This includes work related to civil engineering, earthwork, erosion control, landscaping, and fencing. The role requires close collaboration with subcontractors and project teams to ensure accurate and efficient cost estimation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform civil estimating tasks for utility-scale solar projects, including material quantity takeoffs and earthwork (cut/fill) estimates.
- Interpret and analyze civil drawings, such as contours, topographical surveys, and CAD files.
- Evaluate civil drainage features, including swales, basins, and berms, as well as civil studies (e.g., hydrology, stormwater management, and flood depth reports).
- Conduct takeoffs based on limited project information (site layout, topographic survey, and geotechnical reports).
- Prepare estimates throughout the design phase, including value-engineering analysis, and track changes as designs progress.
- Compile estimates into bid forms and lead estimate reviews with management.
- Coordinate meetings with civil subcontractors to verify estimates and conduct pre-bid/post-bid discussions.
- Build and maintain relationships with trade contractors and vendors to ensure ongoing support for pre-construction solar projects.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in civil estimating, ideally within the solar or construction sectors.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Carlson, Global Mapper, or Civil 3D is a plus.
- Strong background in civil estimating, particularly with subcontractor work.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Skilled in performing material quantity and earthwork takeoffs using civil software.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications accurately.
- Experience leading meetings with subcontractors and internal management.
