Blue Ridge Power (BRP) is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to join our team! The Senior SCADA Engineer is responsible for leading technical design for the SCADA engineering group for all BRP-assigned projects. This role will also act as an Owner’s Engineer for projects produced by contractors for BRP. The Senior SCADA Engineer is responsible for SCADA engineering designs, SCADA engineering estimates, communication network architecture, and relevant drawings development. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
This position can be remote, preferably within comfortable travel distance of one of our BRP office locations in Asheville or Fayetteville, NC, and any travel will be fully reimbursable. Competitive salary and annual bonus offered.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the preparation and review of Functional Design Specifications based on customer requirements.
- Lead the design of power system automation control logics for PV Solar, Substation, and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
- Lead the development and programming of the automation controller settings, historian, and HMI screens.
- Author and review Functional Test requirements, Factory Acceptance Test requirements, Site Acceptance Test requirements, and Commissioning Plan.
- Lead the preparation and maintenance of specifications, checklists, test reports, and deliverables associated with assigned projects.
- Lead the efforts to develop and implement standards for equipment, material, design, and construction requirements for automation architecture.
- Provide oversight and review of the company design processes, procedures, and the use of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software applications to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency in the station design process.
- Develop budget related to automation design and material procurement for BRP estimators. Aid in cost variance analysis post-project completion to improve estimates.
- Work closely with other engineering groups within BRP to coordinate all aspects of SCADA automation engineering.
- Act as Owners Engineer for design work performed by outside consultants. Responsibility includes evaluation of design per scope of work, BRP standards, and error rate.
- Act as a technical representative of BRP during customer-facing discussions, in industry forums, conferences, and other company initiatives to support BRP in its mission.
- Supervise a team of automation engineers to perform automation engineering tasks.
- Teach expertise and best practices of power system automation engineering and mentor senior engineers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Must-Haves:
- 8+ years of directly related SCADA / power management systems engineering experience.
- Technical competency in automation logic and control platforms: SEL RTAC (required), GE RX3i, PLCs, IEC 61131, and Python.
- Good knowledge of electric power system protection, control, automation, and communications protocols (DNP, Modbus, SEL protocols, Goose messaging, and IEC 61850).
- Technical competence in software such as Ignition, Copa Data Zenon, OSIPI, Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, Proficy Machine Ed., Python Scripting, etc.
- Good understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP communications, managed Ethernet switches, and firewall functionality.
- Ability to design and produce design packages for field installation.
- Ability to analyze performance, process improvements, and standardization activities.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
- Flexible and adaptable commercial agility; ability to reorder critical design projects based on new commercial requirements, under tight deadlines and sometimes changing requirements.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and/or computer science from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
- Professional Engineer License is preferred.
Working Environment & Physical Demands:
- This position can be remote, preferably in comfortable traveling distance to one of our BRP office locations in Asheville, or Fayetteville, NC.
- The position works in an office environment.
- Travel up to 25% for FAT and on-site support.
- Must be able to sit/stand at a desk and utilize a computer, for extended periods.
- May require lifting/carrying items up to 30 pounds.
