The Grid Deployment Office plays a critical role in maintaining and investing in essential generation facilities to ensure resource adequacy while also improving and expanding transmission and distribution systems. Through GDO, DOE executes grid modernization and expansion solutions that help achieve clean energy goals and mitigate climate change impacts while ensuring the availability of efficient, reliable generation capacity, such as hydroelectric and nuclear energy.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to critical decision-making and program development for key transmission and microgrid infrastructure projects. Your expertise will help guide investments that are essential for expanding and transforming the nation’s electricity system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate existing transmission and grid infrastructure to identify areas for improvement or expansion. This includes assessing current capabilities and future needs to support a more reliable and efficient power system.
  • Evaluate and provide insights into transmission and microgrid infrastructure projects, including assessing their potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with broader energy goals.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on investments in transmission and grid infrastructure. This includes analyzing the cost, benefits, and potential impact of various projects to support decision-making processes.
  • Analyze market trends, economic factors, and technological advancements to provide recommendations on infrastructure investments and strategies.
  • Utilize data and modeling tools to analyze market trends, infrastructure performance, and potential risks. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Work with various stakeholders, including government agencies, utility companies, and private sector partners, to facilitate project development and address any concerns or requirements.
  • Apply technical knowledge of power systems, transmission technologies, and grid management to solve complex problems and optimize infrastructure performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field and 8 years of related experience. Additional experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in power systems analysis, transmission planning, or grid infrastructure development.
  • Experience with economic and financial analysis related to energy investments and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of power market dynamics, transmission systems, and grid infrastructure.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, assess system performance, and develop actionable insights for infrastructure projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with government agencies or in a regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation tools in a plus.

Other Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a DOE background investigation.

Multiple factors contribute to determining the final pay for a position. These include, but are not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and competencies that align with the specific role, geographic location, educational background, and contract provisions related to labor categories specific to the position.
