Energetics is seeking to hire an Microelectronics Technical Consultant who will bring mature technology insights related to the topic of design and manufacturing for semiconductor energy efficiency, energy efficient microelectronics, their applications, and opportunities to improve energy efficiency of systems utilizing them. The Microelectronics Technical Consultant will serve as a technical resource for the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO). This Engineer will support AMMTO clients in documenting and analyzing the extraordinary record of microelectronics’ energy efficiency as well as future energy, economic, and decarbonization opportunities for emerging technologies in microelectronics.

As part of your work, you’ll gain cutting-edge knowledge and contribute towards technologies, policies, and trends in electrification, data centers, microelectronics, and decarbonization. Join our fast-paced team at Energetics and help turn ideas into real impacts. This consultant will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere, interacting directly with government program managers. This position can be based in one of our existing offices or working remotely in the U.S.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding and application of R&D project management principles, concepts, practices and standards.
  • Have deep technical knowledge in related materials and physical science and their applications in the semiconductor industry and the ability to rapidly learn new technical areas.
  • Support program objectives through task management, analysis and R&D planning, reporting, inter-team and external relations.
  • Develop summary reports to clients, documenting results from DOE-sponsored events and R&D project efforts.
  • Engage across a project portfolio to understand a work effort’s objectives and suggest improvements based on outcomes.
  • Have excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills. A high degree of professionalism, curiosity, and ethical conduct.
  • Manage and serve as point of contact for external engagement with industry, academic and other project partners.
  • Be able to work from a behind a desk with regular Teams interactions with clients

You will have…

  • Engineering or physical sciences degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (3 years with Masters or Ph.D. degree) including internships.
  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing technologies and materials development and/or computer hardware.
  • Knowledgeable about chips used in data centers, including energy use and efficiency limitations, and/or any “Technologies to beat” highlighted in the recent EES2 Roadmap draft.
  • Interest in smart manufacturing, decarbonization, and/or clean energy technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong technical writing skills and an ability to tailor written and verbal communications for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A strong interest in pursuing work in the area of manufacturing, energy efficiency, and the clean energy transition.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

Preferred requirements

  • Physical/ Material scientist or computer scientist with relevant materials and device development experience for microelectronics.
  • Familiarity with data center hardware and software, and/or with communications hardware and software (e.g. 5G, 6G+) mobile applications, and optoelectronics and photonics.
  • Experience in strategic planning and R&D roadmapping—especially related to semiconductor industry and its applications, particularly co-design.
  • Masters or PhD degrees in science and engineering degrees.
  • Candidates with years of experience greater than the minimum are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in government consulting, supporting government organizations, public-private partnerships, or stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficient in running web meeting platforms, e.g., Teams, Zoom, GoToMeeting, WebEx.
  • Technical publications in the field of microelectronics are a plus, but not required.

Target Compensation:

$110,000 – $120,000 / year
