In this role, you will be responsible for driving decisions to balance performance, cost and manufacturability through validation test methods. By gaining alignment from stakeholders across the organization, you will enable implementation of data-driven product improvements to develop a truly cutting-edge technology.

This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on process, design, and manufacturing plans while taking into account the technical risks associated with product recommendations. As a Staff Battery Engineer, you’ll use your expertise to collaborate with experts in materials, electrochemical testing, design, process, manufacturing to drive performance of our first and next-generation electrodes.

If you are ready to leverage your hands-on experience in the development and testing of electrochemical devices and a proactive, interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving, read on!

What You’ll Do

  • Prioritize safety as you carry out the entire electrochemical testing and battery operation process, ranging from the design phase, to implementation, and finally to post-test investigation.
  • Design, execute, and interpret anode electrochemical tests in large- and lab-scale test vehicles
  • Identify performance gaps in product testing compared to R&D-scale electrochemical data and take action to close those gaps.
  • Own, perform, and thoroughly document Root Cause Analyses to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate closely with our product and battery testing teams to analyze complex electrochemical data
  • Pre/post-test materials characterization of electrodes in collaboration with our internal material experts and external vendors
  • Mentor, guide, and support team members with your expertise and practical experience.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years industry experience in testing and evaluating electrochemical systems
  • Experience integrating and interpreting complex electrochemical data collected from multiple sources
  • Solid communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization, including remote team members
  • Expertise with failure prediction and investigation methods, such as RCA and FMEA
  • Hands-on practical experience with electrochemical systems, particularly in deployed market-ready products. Experience in secondary storage electrodes and/or aqueous systems is a plus.
  • Experience with statistical experimental design and data evaluation.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in chemistry, materials engineering or related field, PhD a plus
