Job Description

As an Intern within Scout’s M&A team, you will support the due diligence process for acquisitions and potential sales of utility-scale wind, solar and storage projects.   

You will manage the data room, conduct key analyses on your own, and coordinate third-party review where appropriate. Your strategic engagement of the Development team will enable them to focus their energy on greenfield and mid to late-stage development while providing critical insights into the due diligence process. 

 

You will employ your organizational skills and business acumen to participate in Scout’s due diligence process: 

  • Coordinate due diligence activities with internal engineering, development, construction, legal, and project finance team members. 
  • Anticipate potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. 
  • Support the development and negotiation of term sheets as you hone your understanding of the commercial points that drive acquisition agreements. 
  • Integrate the feedback of Scout team members into your project approach to achieve superior results. 
  • Implement long-term company strategy and initiatives related to wind, solar and energy storage development. 
  • Mine ISO/RTO queues for potential targets. 
  • Track and map M&A opportunities in Scout’s GIS mapping tool. 
  • Conduct basis and congestion analysis for potential acquisitions. 
  • Research other changes in the markets to identify areas with high potential opportunities. 
  • Prepare proposals, presentations, and board papers as directed. 
  • Support financial modeling and evaluation efforts

In addition, you will conduct research to support our project identification and negotiation efforts: 

You will join the M&A team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of M&A. You will collaborate extensively with team members across the company as Scout continues to grow through both organic and strategic acquisition opportunities to bring high quality wind, solar and storage projects into our pipeline for development. 

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in finance, business, economics, or quantitative field. 
  • Passion for renewable energy and the commitment to advancing its adoption. 
  • High level of organization and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Desire to cultivate your commercial and negotiation skills. 
  • Strength in communicating verbally, in writing, and through presentation development. 
  • Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations, and risk/benefit tradeoffs, in written, verbal, and presentation format, to project teams and to senior management. 
  • Experience using influence rather than authority to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. 

 

Preferred but not required 

  • Current MBA student or recent graduate from an MBA program. 
  • Awareness of economic drivers for renewable energy projects. 
  • Basic understanding of Google Earth Pro of another GIS mapping software. 
  • Demonstrated success in the areas of process management or process improvement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.

 Timeline and Location 

This position will begin in May 2025. The internship will be a full-time (40 hr/week) commitment for the duration of the 12-week internship program. Our ideal candidate will be able to work out of our Boulder office during the duration of the internship program per the program requirements.

Compensation 

Hourly Rate: $25-30/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
