The City of Encinitas Development Services Department is seeking to hire a Sustainability Analyst with a strong interest in sustainability, climate change, energy resources and conservation, transportation planning, policy development, and environmental equity to join the team. This position will provide professional analytical support to the Sustainability Division in the areas of climate action and adaptation planning and project implementation, energy usage, renewables and procurement, building decarbonization and electrification, green building and energy efficiency, alternative transportation planning, and community outreach and engagement. The Sustainability Analyst will utilize strong analytical, writing, and communication skills to produce a variety of reports, policies and programs, budgets, presentations, educational materials, online content, and grant proposals. The Sustainability Analyst should have an understanding of policy and program development, project management, financial, and organizational and operational analyses.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to) Participate in the development and implementation of plans, programs, policies, budgets, and projects related to sustainability, climate action and adaptation planning, energy resources, renewables, building decarbonization and electrification, green building and energy efficiency, and alternative transportation Gather information, analyze data, identify requirements and trends, and present findings Develop and produce written, verbal, and graphic communication materials, including staff reports, presentations, websites, and social media content Maintain and enhance internal and external stakeholder relationships and partnerships in the topical areas of environment, energy, climate, and sustainability ? Collaborate with City staff and external stakeholders in designing and implementing programs to advance sustainability initiatives, including community events and engagement opportunities Research grants and other funding opportunities; under direction, prepare grant applications and proposals, monitor and report on grant spending, request grant reimbursements Assist with the maintenance of department programming and systems by providing consultation, serving as support staff when needed, and contributing to operations as assigned Prepare agenda items for Commissions, and/or City Council Perform other related duties, programming, and operations as assigned The ideal candidate must have the ability to: prioritize, plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines;?plan, organize, and review the work of technical, and clerical personnel; perform responsible work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative; prepare and deliver effective oral presentations; interact effectively and sensitively with community members and stakeholders; gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions; prepare and maintain accurate and complete records; research, collect, compile, and analyze information and data; prepare clear and concise reports; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; exercise good judgment and reasoning; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. The ideal candidate must have skills in: using computers and related software applications/programs; research and analyze a variety of data and/or information to make informed recommendations based on findings; report writing; reviewing requests for proposals, bids and/or quotes; and managing projects, project tracking, and contract administration.
