American Energy Storage Innovations, Inc. has a full-time opening for a Cell Modeler in Hudson, Massachusetts.

Job Summary:

The Cell Modeler is responsible for developing cell models to support control algorithms used in American Energy Storage Innovations, Inc (AESIs) battery management systems and energy management systems. This is a fast-paced environment with a nimble team of industry experts highly motivated by the exciting changes happening today across the worlds electricity grids. This individual is a member of the Cell Technology team, which is responsible for providing models of cell performance and life, and algorithms for state of charge and state of health.

Responsibilities:

• Develop battery cell-performance and cycle-life models.
• Develop state of charge and state of health algorithms.
• Communicate models and algorithms to the firmware and grid analytics teams.
• Keep aware of published literature about state of charge estimation, state of health estimation, and cycle life modeling.
• Monitor battery test data and identify problems with testing.
• Analyze data, including modifying analysis scripts and reporting test results to engineers across the organization.
• Adhere to federal and state regulations.
• Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.
• Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
• Predictable and reliable attendance.

Position Qualifications:

• Masters or Doctoral degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or materials engineering.
• Minimum of two (2) year experience with developing electrochemical models of batteries.
• Experience with casting differential equations into numerical form (finite difference, control volume, etc.) and with methods for efficient numerical solution of differential equations.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience with algorithms for estimation of state of charge and state of health.
• Familiarity with the physical causes of degradation in batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries.
• Proficiency with programming battery cyclers.
• Proficiency in modifying data analysis scripts (python, MATLAB, or similar language).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft suite products.
• Experience with communicating to a broader team.
