Job Description

Facility Operations Engineer

The Opportunity:

Are you passionate about designing, installing, or operating carbon-free resilient energy systems? What if you could help support the transition to electrification of mechanical systems for critical mission facilities? As a mechanical engineer focusing on facility decarbonization, you understand the intricacy involved with developing innovative solutions that can effectively integrate with existing complex energy systems. We are looking for an engineer to aid in these efforts who has a background in facility operations and maintenance or cost engineering and who can provide meaningful insight from life-cycle cost assessments and developments for building decarbonization projects. That knowledge is key when it comes to understanding the cost implications of transitioning heating and cooling systems to all-electric.

At Booz Allen, you will help our clients design, build, renovate, and adapt their facilities by purchasing new mechanical equipment, and retrofitting existing equipment. These facility upgrades are necessitated by a requirement for increasing energy resilience of defense facilities. Your analysis will detail the financial impact and feasibility on existing energy infrastructure.

On our team, you will use your technical and tactical knowledge to help understand sequences of operation of existing equipment. You will assess the cost implications of installation-wide electrified heating and cooling systems by performing a detailed analysis of the existing mechanical infrastructure, existing thermal load profile, and heating or cooling load requirements, and provide recommendations and potential cost savings of efficient all-electric technologies. We will look to you to share your analytical and engineering expertise through collaboration with a small team of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and financial analysts. This is a chance to use your experience-based knowledge in cost engineering and data analysis, while complementing your skillset with like-minded individuals experienced in policy, energy modeling, and power systems.

Join us. The world cant wait.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience with engineering or analysis in the energy sector
  • Experience working with electrical, heating, cooling, and water infrastructure
  • Experience with building design and trade disciplines involving the management of critical building systems
  • Experience with fuels management, natural gas infrastructure, and mechanical equipment from facility heating systems
  • Experience with building automation systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and energy management control systems (EMCS)
  • Experience with operations, maintenance, and testing (OM&T) of energy systems
  • Knowledge of environmental, sustainability, and energy efficiency regulations, executive orders, and consensus standards, especially for building electrification or deep-energy retrofits
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with Department of Defense installations, processes, or personnel
  • Experience in cost estimating with life-cycle cost assessments of building mechanical equipment
  • Experience conducting techno-economic evaluations or analyzing energy conservation measures (ECMs)
  • Experience with design, evaluation, specification, and implementation of carbon-free energy projects such as solar photovoltaic, wind, geothermal, hydro, or nuclear
  • Experience with all-electric facility-level technology for systems components, including for space conditioning, water heating, cooking, and laundry
  • Professional Engineering License or Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
