Job Description

Position Summary

Design commercial and utility scale Photovoltaic (PV) Systems with and without Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) utilizing remotely and in person gathered survey data. Perform specialized & advanced engineering in an area of your expertise (Electrical Engineering) for projects other engineers are doing the balance of the design work on. Perform in person predesign site surveys, in construction & post-construction QA/QC inspections. Create detailed instructions for installation crews to prevent installation errors. Provide technical sales support as necessary. Complete technical paperwork, design/cost analysis, demand-battery-consumption analysis, & interface with the balance of the engineering team as needed.

Qualifications

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening

Must have a clean driving record

Must be able to work inside or outside in all weather conditions

Must be able to lift and carry 55 lbs. or more

Must have a completely flexible schedule; able to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and a minimum of 50 hours per week

Must complete all training from Solarity and any other required training

OSHA30 Required

Bachelors Degree minimum, Masters Degree preferred, in Engineering.

Essential Responsibilities

Drive safely obeying all laws and Solarity polices

Follow Solarity policies

Provide design specifications for commercial and utility scale PV Systems using various types of technologies and products

Create single line and three-line drawings as necessary, including monitoring and communication systems.

Perform calculations related to string sizing, voltage drop, current capacity, overcurrent protection, wire sizing, etc.

Create array layouts for roof mounted and ground mounted systems.

Know Federal, State, and Local ordinance and regulations required to design systems that will pass all required applications and inspections.

Mastery of current NEC is required.

Work with third party engineering firm to perform structural analysis on buildings to determine load bearing capacity.

Work without outside engineering firms to get PE stamped drawings as necessary.

Work with outside engineering firms for the preparation of civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, erosion & sediment control plans, and other necessary services outside of in-house engineering capabilities for projects.

Assist sales team & subcontractors with remote technical support and onsite support as needed.

Assist with the creation of detailed Scope of Work Statements as needed for subcontractors.

Assist as necessary with technical analysis of utility bills and demand data to determine savings data and appropriate system sizing.

Travel as necessary to perform job related functions that require being in the field.

Ability to wear PPE as necessary and required.

Perform computer simulations of PV system performance and energy production to optimize efficiency.

Import site specific data to CAD from Drone surveys to create accurate layouts.

Provide exact GPS coordinate locations for pile installations on ground mounted systems.

Provide additional engineering specifications for ancillary services sold in conjunction with PV Systems, such as service/electrical upgrades, LED lighting, generators, demand mitigation systems, etc.

Perform value engineering during design process.

Follow Solarity technical standards during specification process.

Update documents per redlines to as-built conditions.

Continuing Education to maintain active knowledge of current standards and practices within the solar industry and relevant codes along with maintenance of certifications.

Create preliminary layouts in Helioscope in conjunction with Sales Consultant & Customer requests while providing feedback & suggestions to maximize design & sales opportunities.

Utilize a variety of online resources to gather missing details necessary to complete layouts when necessary, such as Google Earth, Google Street Views, GIS Data, Tax Assessors Databases, Corporate Websites, etc.

Assist with reviewing & making detailed edits to quotes and contractual documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Check published documents for accuracy before providing them to the others.

Analyze kWh flow/savings for non-net metered or annual net metered utilities using software programs or advanced spreadsheet calculators.

Analyze demand mitigation savings from battery technology using software programs.

Design grid-tied, grid-tied battery backup, grid-tied self-consumption, and off-grid systems.

Utilize task queue to complete scheduled items in priority order.

Work collaboratively on larger projects with other members of the Engineering team.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

Work well independently & as part of a team.

Be self-motivated.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Expert knowledge of Medium Voltage design & engineering for above ground, below ground, solar, and substations required.

Expert understanding of electrical gear design, wiring options, equipment specifications, wire terminations, BOS specifications, etc., and assisting with selecting and specifying the best options for projects and long-term standards.

Ability to design & program SCADA systems.

Ability to assist with advanced electrical permit or interconnection application creation & submission.

Working Conditions

Job may require working in all elements depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain or snow. Indoor and outside activities required.

Exposure to loud noise levels

Working near power lines and electricity

Must be able to work from within a manufacturers rated weight capacity for all equipment including but not limited to ladders and aerial lifts.

o Note: Employees personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of the equipment.

Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times as required.

Working at least five days a week, early mornings, nights, and overtime. Maybe required to work on Saturday and/or Sunday as the schedule dictates.

Work related travel up to 50%.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $125,000.00 per year
