Compensation: Up to $70/hr
Job Purpose:
The Commissioning Area Engineer is responsible for coordinating, work connected with the testing and/or commissioning of electrical distribution and transmission substations for utility clients.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with clients to determine their needs and priorities.
- Provide written procedures for switching, energization, isolation methods for testing and commissioning work.
- Coordinate and oversee substation technicians, electricians and serve as project manager.
- Serve as primary customer contact for specific projects.
- Strong communication and written skills are required for procedure writing.
- Professional presentation required in dealing with employees, clients and suppliers.
- Prevent unnecessary outages while working in Brownfield Substations or on any type of energized equipment.
Qualifications:
- BS or 2 year degree in electrical engineering is a plus, along with experience in communicating with microprocessor type relays.
- Minimum 5 years experience in electrical equipment testing and inspection, including high voltage applications.
- Knowledge of testing, commissioning and maintenance of power equipment.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior Safety record.
- Broad experience with wide variety of electrical apparatus used in power industry, including transformers, breakers and switchgear.
- Experience in working in utility transmission substation is required.
