The facility is planned to be built by early 2026 for production commencement. Consequently, the first part of the journey in this role in our Company will involve coordinating the construction, and the implementation of new processes, as well as participating with the development of a high-performance team and coordinating all aspects of the factory setup to prepare for production. In the interim, there may be international travel for training at other Siemens-Energy facilities.

This role is for individual contributor, responsible for preparing winding & winding assembly drawings & BOMs of Power transformers as well as achieve design innovations and the optimization of the end products in compliance to Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost position and time schedule at Siemens Energy Transformers Factory at Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Your Tasks & Responsibilities are as below:

  • Understand the electrical design output and prepare winding and winding assembly manufacturing drawings and Bills of Material for ordering of components of Large Power/Auto/Generator transformers (upto 500MVA, 550kV) and its sub-assemblies and components.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of engineering drawings and bills of material.
  • Support the winding assembly block manufacturing processes, quality inspections, failure analysis, concessions on tolerances, advising alternatives and responding queries from suppliers.

Requirement for this role:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • 6+ years working experience as a transformer electrical design engineer or winding & winding assembly design engineer.
  • Knowledge of designing helical, layer, multi-start, disc winding with inter shielding and interleaving etc. for Low voltage, High voltage, tertiary and regulating systems of medium and large power transformers above 100MVA/220kV
  • Knowledge of different types of winding copper conductors like paper covered copper strips and CTC (with and without enamel/epoxy).
  • Experience of designing winding assembly and knowledge of insulation parts like spacers, barriers, oil-guides, top and bottom end molded pressboard insulation parts like angle rings, angle caps, snouts etc.
  • Knowledge on special processes related to winding and WAB like conductor bending, joint formation, enamel removal, moisture removal in ovens, winding block pressing/sizing, height adjustment, gluing, shield ring design, crimping and brazing etc.
  • Knowledge of all types of axial and radial winding exits and their electrostatic shielding/preparation eg. Top/middle entry, exits for multi start windings, locking for SC forces etc.
  • Proficient in 2D CAD tools like AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of dielectrics, axial & radial short circuit forces and oil flow mechanism within the winding.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor/UG) is an added advantage.
  • Experience of electrostatic field calculation (eg. ELECTRO, CST Studio, Infolytica) is an added advantage.

Key Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English is necessary.
  • Self-motivated to produce high quality results within the time allocated, with limited supervision
  • Effective co-ordination with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer
  • Experience with SAP is an added advantage
