Become an Energy Operations Specialist Realtime Operator at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, youll join our Southern California Edison Generation Operation Center (GOC) within the Energy Procurement & Management (EP&M) team. The GOC ensures that our customers have enough electricity to meet their needs, through the output of SCE-owned generation plants and purchase of electricity from independent generators. The GOC is responsible for leading SCEs diverse fleet of renewable & conventional generation, intertie, energy storage, and demand side resources. In this role you will communicate with power plant operators, and the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) operators to ensure compliance in a dynamic, 24 x 7 operational environment.
As the Energy Operations Specialist Realtime Operator, you will work rotating 12 hour shifts and perform all scheduling coordinator functions in the California Independent System Operators (CAISO) wholesale power market and the CAISO regional Energy Imbalance Market (EIM). You will also be responsible for purchasing and selling energy and transmission as needed to serve our customers energy needs.

- Monitor SCEs portfolio of generation, load, intertie, energy storage, and demand response resources and take action to ensure reliable operations.
- Receive and communicate dispatch instructions and verify that they are followed.
- Receive, approve, submit, and handle outages and derates throughout their entire lifecycle.
- Purchase and sell energy and transmission to meet company objectives.
- Craft, adjust, and monitor e-tags as necessary for intertie transactions.
- Respond to CAISO directives and requests for information. Submit bids and schedules as needed.
- Define and implement process improvements.
- Produce transaction reports ensuring compliance with all regulatory rules and internal risk requirements.
- Provide accurate, written record of daily events.
The Essentials
- Three (3) or more years of experience in functions related to energy markets, power plant operations, commodity trading, financial analysis, modeling, and/or data analytics.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
- Experience working collaboratively with internal and external partners (e.g. plant personnel, CAISO operators, etc.)
- Experience making decisions or recommendations guided by compliance requirements, company policies, procedures, rules, or management oversights.
The Preferred
- Bachelors degree
- Knowledge with WECC (The Western Electricity Coordinating Council).
- Experience with generation dispatching, energy scheduling, energy trading, transmission purchasing, and e-tags via software, telephone, radio, computer and internet-based systems.
- Experience with control system software such as SCADA, EMS, or GMS.
- Experience with real time trading
- NERC System Operator Certification
- Experience acting as a Scheduling Coordinator in CAISO or other balancing area with ability to follow standardized instructions and procedures such as tariffs, business process manuals, NERC operating procedures, and internal operating processes while applying the full suite of BA software applications such as ADS, SIBR, CMRI, BSAP, OMS, and CIDI.
