Department Overview
This position will reside within PG&Es System Planning organization. System Planning is part of PG&Es Engineering, Planning and Strategy organization. The vision for System Planning is to lead the way in inventing Californias new clean-energy future. The work is informed by analytics using an integrated planning approach, considering Californias and PG&Es electric system, gas system, advanced load management, and bulk generation resources. System Planning provides support for PG&Es commercial and regulatory activities and important linkages to PG&Es policy, strategy, investment, and finance plans.
Position Summary
The Principal Clean Energy Strategic Analyst will support PG&Es long-term system planning efforts to advance PG&E environmental goals.
The successful candidate has a strong background in the energy industry (California or similar markets) and is able to take a conceptual idea to create innovative solution and lead complex initiatives to advance PG&Es position.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The preferred work location is Oakland, CA.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&Es discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $136,000
Bay Area Maximum: $232,000
Job Responsibilities
Lead Resource Planning, Modelling, and Analysis: Leads complex or innovative analysis associated with energy policy and planning, taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions for an evolving electric grid composed of large amounts of renewables, emerging technology (e.g., carbon capture and storage (CCS), Direct Air Capture (DAC)), and increasingly distributed generation. This position is expected to be a thought leader in generation planning and integration in of renewable resources, capable of identifying emerging issues and developing solutions.
Project Management and Integrated Planning: Actively collaborates with PG&Es planning organizations and external partners to advance integrated planning and innovative solutions.
Regulatory Filings: Informed by analytics, leads in the development of PG&Es regulatory filings and participation in the CPUC and CAISO planning proceedings.
Mentoring and Education: Proactively mentors and trains coworkers and junior analysts and shares subject matter expertise with the broader PG&E teams to help others gain a deeper understanding of emerging resource planning issues.
Qualifications
Minimum:
Bachelors degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Sociology, Policy, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 8-years of job-related experience
Knowledge of California or similar energy markets and environmental policy goals
Desired:
Masters degree in a technical field
Knowledge and expertise in utility industry in the areas of resource planning, transmission planning, CAISO (or similar) market.
Experience with capacity expansion and production cost simulation models, especially pertaining to electric markets (e.g., Plexos, SERVM)
Experience with state and/or regional, federal energy regulatory proceedings and processes.
Demonstrated ability to take a conceptual issue and independently design and complete innovative analysis to draw meaningful conclusions.
Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to concisely convey information based on unique audience needs.
Strong capability in building internal and external relationships and identifying customer concerns.
Strong capability in prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals
