Operations Safety Field Southwest Supervisor

SCS Operations, Safety & Health

WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL

  • This position will primarily support the Alabama & Mississippi coastal area
  • The position is flexible to be located at one of our plants in Mobile, AL or Gulfport, MS for any applicant that does not currently live within the southwest support areas.
  • Some relocation assistance may be available if the successful candidate does not already live within a reasonable commute distance
  • This position will require travel (approximately 50%) consisting of mix of both day-trip and overnight travel.

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides safety leadership and management for the delivery of safety and health services supporting Southern Company Operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree is highly preferred; CSP or CIH is also preferred
  • 5 years of experience in a professional safety or compliance position is required
  • Performance management experience is required
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and national consensus standards impacting the Power Generation industry is required
  • Strong interpersonal, written, presentation and computer skills are required
  • Teamwork and leadership skills are required
  • Extensive travel to southwest plants and facilities is required
  • Experience in plant operations is preferred
  • Experience providing concurrent safety and health services to multiple locations is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels and to operate as a change agent
  • Demonstrate Southern Style

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and facilitate the safety and health improvement process for Southern Company Operations through effective relationships with management and compliance teams
  • Assist in the identification of safety and health training needs and delivery
  • Assist in the professional development of Southern Company Operations safety and health personnel
  • Ensure the timely and effective communication of company and industry safety and health information, key learnings and best practices
  • Provide safety and health guidance, direction and consultation to management and safety and health personnel; serve as the primary technical advisor for safety and health issues
  • Partner with the APC & MPC Corporate S&H organization relative to company safety and health initiatives/practices impacting Southern Company Operations
  • Provide contracts administration and project field safety and health support

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP : This position reports to the Manager of Operations Safety Field West. Performance evaluation will include input from Operations Managers. This position normally has 2 direct reports and supplemental staff.
