About the Role

Integer seeks a Lead Power Systems Engineer with knowledge and experience with power and energy systems’ technology for maritime applications. This includes power generation, distribution, controls, energy storage, and thermal management onboard both Navy surface combatants and uncrewed vehicles. Specifically, this role will lead the development of strategic roadmaps that identify critical investment areas for government stakeholders where science and technology (S&T) programs can help close Department of Defense capability gaps. In this vein, it is important that the position have a broad understanding of power and energy technology. Prior experience developing long term strategic roadmaps is advantageous as is the ability to think about technology development over a decadal time horizon. This role will also support Integer’s Power and Energy technology development programs and must have a strong understanding of multi-domain physics behind power system components and be capable of maintaining virtual representation of physical power and energy systems. This role will involve working with stakeholders across multiple groups including government, academia, and industry to identify capability gaps and emergent technology. As such it is important that the Power and Energy Roadmapping engineer has strong verbal and written communication skills and prior experience producing high quality, customer-facing technical reports. The Power and Energy Roadmapping Engineer also requires the ability to think creatively about novel technical concepts and articulate how those concepts may eventually be integrated into fieldable solutions for future Navy platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead interactions with stakeholders from government, academia, and industry to identify both critical power and energy capability gaps across multiple warfighting domains and novel technologies or research ideas that may close them.
  • Leverage broad understanding of power and energy technology to creatively think through and articulate how investments in research and development initiatives could help connect emerging technologies with future DoD capability needs.
  • Lead the development of strategic roadmaps showing how Navy agencies can structure R&D portfolios to ensure they are investing their resources in a way that maximizes their impact.
  • Support annual updates of the roadmaps based on tracking the evolving state-of-the-art and considering new operational domains.
  • Communicate the findings of these roadmaps to government stakeholders.
  • Participate in customer facing project reviews.

Qualification Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a US DoD Secret clearance.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field and at least four years of professional experience.
  • Familiarity with power and energy technology including power generation, distribution, conversion, controls, and thermal management.
  • Demonstrated mastery of at least one computer modeling & simulation environment (MATLAB/Simulink preferred).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Java) with a preference for Python.
  • Experience writing, simulating, and deploying control software for power systems and power system components.
  • Familiarity with academic research environments and interfacing with early researchers and subject matter experts.
  • Familiarity with Navy missions, platforms, and capability gaps. This includes, but is not limited to, surface combatants, unmanned systems, and expeditionary warfare.
  • Comfortable thinking creatively about long-term (30+ year) technology challenges and the inherent uncertainty of technology development on those time scales.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, estimated at less than 20% of the time.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field
