Were looking for a Renewables Design, Manager to join our Electric Utility Design team at our Overland Park location (in office).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction for a small team of engineers, designers and/or drafters to develop renewable project design packages.
  • Facilitate the development of renewable design drawing packages which may include:
    • General Arrangements and Layouts
    • Elevations and Section Details
    • Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules
    • Single-Line, Three-Line, Phasing Diagrams, Schematics, Cable Schedules, etc.
    • Ground Grid Design and Grounding Details
    • Bill of Materials (BOM)
    • Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis
    • Control Building Layouts and Equipment
  • Develop bid documents and material specifications.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) in area of expertise, sealing design drawings as required.
  • Create design criteria, control objectives, and operator interfaces appropriate for the designs, integrating client-supplied standards and requirements.
  • Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate design requirements with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, and survey.
  • Develop proposals, scopes, conceptual/feasibility studies, cost estimates, and schedules to support awarding and execution of projects.
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relations as a main point of contact.
  • Attend client meetings to ensure the design meets their needs and objectives.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • PE license in Kansas preferred (or the ability to obtain the license in a timely manner).
  • 7-10 years of experience in renewables design or related area.
  • Familiar with design of Inverter Based Resources (IBRs) applied in both small and large-scale Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designs.
  • Familiar with design requirements associated with PV racking for both fixed and tracking installations.
  • Able to facilitate the development of various system studies including short circuit, voltage drop, power flow (P&Q), insulation coordination, grounding, cable thermal derating, and other similar studies required for system interconnection.
  • Familiar with various PV/BESS equipment, interconnection requirements, typical utility processes and studies.
  • Able to develop collector systems, typically 34.5kV including underground cabling, separable connector interfaces, sectionalizing and arrester specifying and application.
  • Knowledgeable on power systems including integrations of IBRs into utility transmission systems as well as behind-the-meter applications of distributed resources.
  • Basic understanding of basic networks, fiber and copper network cabling, transports, protocols and cyber-security objectives desirable.
  • Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Bulletins and applicable IEEE & IEC Standards.
  • Proficient with various software packages including AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.
  • Working knowledge with design tools including PVcase, PVsyst, Aspen One-Liner, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, WinIGS, and GroundMat is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project tasks. Excellent presentation, written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, be self-directed, exhibit good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings may be required.
