Position Summary

The Analyst will be responsible for managing the interconnection process for utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) and Energy Storage power plants and other clean energy facilities to the integrated transmission system. Responsibilities extend through multiple phases of the project development process, including siting, steady-state injection studies, interconnection application, study process management, negotiation of interconnection agreements, grid integration, construction, and testing.

Location: U.S. or Canada (Hybrid or Remote)

Responsibilities

  • Independently work on all aspects of the utility interconnection and grid integration process for new power plant projects.
  • Provide input to the early-stage development process regarding strategic interconnection siting and interconnection facilities.
  • Develop workflows and internal processes as well as managing relationships with internal customers and external resources.
  • Onboard and manage external consultants performing interconnection modeling and studies including load flow studies of current and future utility system conditions.
  • Provide strategic, market, commercial and technical input to the Development, Engineering and Construction teams regarding the development, grid integration, and interconnection of the company’s project pipeline.
  • Become knowledgeable with relevant interconnection tariffs for key domestic and international utilities and system operators.
  • Represent Recurrent Energy and actively participate at utility and ISO technical policy stakeholder meetings, working groups and renewable trade groups.
  • Review and analyze pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, and Facility Studies.
  • Collaborate with EPC firms to ensure reliable and cost-effective electrical design of contracted plants.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of utility system operation, transmission planning process and Generator Interconnection is an asset.
  • Knowledge of power load flow modeling, short circuit studies, stability studies and results.
  • Functional knowledge of high-voltage power equipment such as Breakers, Switches and Transformers.
  • Familiarity and prior experience using any power system modeling and simulation tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, Powerworld or TARA is preferred.
  • Ability to provide concise feedback on technical subjects to non- technical personnel.
  • Ability to develop scopes of work for outside consultants and contractors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, work ethic and a positive team-player attitude.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and results-oriented.
  • Comfortable in, and excited about, working in a dynamic organization.
  • Strong organizational skills enabling the candidate to manage many projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar engineering background) with an emphasis on Power Systems preferred. A masters degree would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with power systems modeling, transmission planning, HV design.
  • 1-2 years of Internship and/or full-time experience. Previous experience working for a utility, system operator, consultant or Independent System Operator is preferred.
  • PSSE, Aspen, ETAP, PSCAD, or PSLF modeling experience.
  • Python programming skills will be an asset.
