Pre-Construction Manager (Solar)
$140,000 – $160,000 + 15% Bonus + Equity

Piper Maddox is partnered is a leading developer, owner, operator, and financier of solar energy projects. As a full Independent Power Producer (IPP), we are involved in every aspect of the solar lifecycle. With 2.5 GW in development and 300 MW in operation across the United States.
The Solar Preconstruction Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the preparation and oversight of comprehensive budgets and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) estimates for our solar projects. This role involves collaborating closely with the preconstruction team, interfacing with various stakeholders, and ensuring accurate and effective project planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate Preparation:
- Assemble estimates for multiple projects, including takeoff and unit pricing for limited trades.
- Develop comprehensive budgets and GMP estimates based on quantity surveys and unit costs.
- Provide cost savings suggestions and manage trade-specific proposals.
Trade Management:
- Interface with the Project ‘Preconstruction Chief’ to manage assigned trade responsibilities.
- Review project drawings to identify missing information and generate RFIs (Requests for Information) for architects and engineers.
- Develop bid tab sheets from trade contractors’ proposals for thorough analysis.
Team Management:
- Lead and guide team members in compiling accurate budgets and GMP estimates.
- Communicate with the Operations Team to incorporate site logistics, General Requirements (GRs), and General Conditions (GCs) into estimates.
Progressive Estimating:
- Provide multiple progressive estimates and reconcile cost variances between deliverables.
- Ensure precise analysis and documentation of trade-specific scopes and qualifications.
Communication and Coordination:
- Manage communications with trade contractors for scope-specific proposals.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment and accuracy in project planning and estimates.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in construction estimating, preferably within the solar industry.
- Strong understanding of trade-specific scopes and unit pricing.
- Ability to review and interpret drawings, and manage RFIs effectively.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets and GMP estimates.
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with contractors and internal teams.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and team members efficiently.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with solar energy projects.
- Familiarity with estimating software and tools.
- Ability to propose and implement cost-saving measures.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications or additional training in estimating or project management are advantageous.
