Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Substation Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing comprehensive and accurate bid estimates for mid to large-scale high voltage GIS/AIS projects. This role involves collaborating closely with engineering teams, analyzing project scopes, and ensuring that all bid submissions are accurate and submitted on time. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and substation estimating, familiarity with the National Electrical Code, and experience with GIS/AIS and renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities

Prepare comprehensive and accurate bid estimates for mid to large-scale high voltage GIS/AIS projects, including equipment, material, construction, and labor costs.

Perform all take-offs and quantity surveys according to company-standardized procedures.

Analyze project scopes, develop cost alternatives, and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure accurate understanding of designs and specifications.

Solicit subcontractor and material/equipment quotes from approved vendors.

Prepare and submit scope letters, bid forms, and other bid submissions accurately and on time.

Participate in construction turnover meetings with the Operations Group and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating guidelines.

Conduct site visits to confirm project conditions and assist field personnel in developing or recommending change orders as needed.

Support technical proposals and ensure bid deadlines and customer presentation requirements are met.

Attend bid meetings and develop and execute bid strategy.

Prepare thorough and timely cost analysis.

Analyze project proposals to prepare budget and cost estimates.

Gather, update, and review historical cost data.

Primary Skills

A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in electrical and substation estimating.

In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code and construction industry practices.

Experience with computerized bidding software.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical and experience with both GIS/AIS.

Strong client focus and problem-solving skills.

Secondary Skills

Additional experience in renewable energy projects and civil utility.

Willingness to travel to job locations as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management or a related field of study.

Experience estimating projects or relevant engineering experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
