Job Summary:
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance and repair of all the technical and engineering needs for the fleet.
Responsibilities:
· Attend vessels during periods of maintenance, repair, drydocking and regulatory inspections.
· Troubleshoot vessel machinery and systems.
· Develop repair plans and manage repairs onboard.
· Lead shipboard repairs onboard vessels with crew assistance.
· Work directly with the vessel crews on preventative maintenance (PM) items and spare parts needs.
· Work directly with contractors when needed for repair support.
· Assist Technical Superintendent in the purchasing of parts, equipment and supplies.
· Assist Technical Superintendent in the continuous improvement of PM plans for vessel machinery and systems.
· The port engineer reports directly to the Technical Superintendent.
· Flexible work hours to accommodate when vessels are in port for maintenance/repair.
Competencies & Qualifications
· Must be able to diagnose/troubleshoot machinery, equipment, and vessel systems.
· Experienced mechanic preferred.
· Knowledge of steel and aluminum welding.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
· Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Experience
5 or more years’ experience in marine engineering or similar mechanical field. Prior experience with ocean going vessels is required.
Location
New England. Some travel to vessels will be required.
