Job Description Summary

This position is an entry level position and under supervision helps design, construct, and ensure reliable performance for AES Clean Energy, Energy Management, SCADA, Telecommunications, and other assorted technology systems that monitor and control generation power systems. These managed assets are critical for electrical grid operations.

These duties involve a wide variety of knowledge in hardware, software, generation operations, networking systems, firewalls, security, power system modeling, remote field devices, and other technology involving new and existing legacy systems, along with supporting the AES Digital Strategy.

Job Description

This position is an entry level position and under supervision helps craft, construct, and ensure reliable performance for AES Clean Energy, Energy Management, SCADA, Telecommunications, and other assorted technology systems that supervise and control Solar, Wind, Battery, and Hybrid Renewable Generation power systems.  These assets are crucial for electrical grid operations.

The duties involve a wide variety of knowledge in IT hardware, software, computer networking, security, remote field devices, and other technology involving new and existing legacy systems, along with supporting the AES Digital Strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • This position will help configure, install, operate, troubleshoot and maintain servers, storage arrays, network devices, and software to ensure the reliable operation of the power grid.
  • As a member of the OT support team represent the organization during on-call rotation. Support during on-call rotations will involve resetting remote services & servers, resetting user passwords, troubleshooting ISP outages, and other system troubleshooting. Responding quickly, following established procedures, and documentation is essential to performing this task.
  • These systems operate 24×7 and are used by Generation field, engineering, planning, reporting and dispatch staff. 
  • Help users apply technology to improve business practices to protect large assets and improve customer service. 
  • Interacts with co-workers, vendors, and representatives of other organizations to acquire and disseminate information, advise on projects, resolve conflicts, set priorities, coordinate activities, complete projects within time and budget constraints, and provide assistance.
  • Create diagrams and documentation for as-is and to-be IT configurations.
  • Helps evaluate new products and services from vendors to resolve applicability to hardware, software, networks and other systems.
  • Has knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures to ensure compliance and client agencies to ensure systems are aligned with all regulatory parameters. Will actively seek to enforce AES Cybersecurity requirements and maintain NERC CIP compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related subject
  • Experience with designing and implementation virtual environments and network fundamentals.
  • Good technical understanding of hardware, software and overall technology.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Up to 50+% travel may be required,
  • On call one week a month to supporting 24/4 operations desk.
  • This position should have 0 to 3 years of operational technology experience.
  • Ability to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Desired Experience:

  • VMWare 
  • Windows server installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Networking design including VLANs and subnetting
  • Ability to troubleshoot and logically work through issues based on prior experience.
  • Able to wear PPE as needed including steel toe boots, hard hat, other required safety gear.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $65,000 and $80,750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
