DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER OR ENGINEERING ASSOCIATE Work Location: 829 Jefferson St, Atlanta, GA

Candidate must currently live within a reasonable, daily commuting distance to Metro Atlanta or be wiling to relocate to be within commuting distance. Relocation assistance available if needed.

Job Summary

This position will be responsible for the total project design and construction coordination of advanced distribution systems involving underground network systems, which consists of ductlines, manholes, vaults, submersible cable and equipment designed for high reliability. Responsibilities include service and system design, estimating, maintenance, billing and coordinating construction and permitting activities for multiple large residential, new business (commercial and industrial), MARTA and distribution projects on the underground network system. This position serves as a point of contact for customers, developers, construction coordinators, distribution, transmission, metering, land resources, municipalities, sales, network reliability, accounting, and supply chain.

Candidate must provide superior customer service and be able to prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for processing all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements. Other duties will include handling customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.) and assisting with Distribution compliance and asset management programs. Candidate will also participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and must be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience for an Engineer or Engineering Associate position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math or Science OR
  • Professional Engineer’s License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor’s degree
  • Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
  • Distribution and or related Engineering design experience with a power utility company is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired.
  • Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems are highly desired
  • Candidate should possess knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground construction practices.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, CSS, and DistView preferred
  • Knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Network Underground Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual and the Financial and Business goals preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.
  • Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners and crew personnel.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good Attitude and Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally
  • Working knowledge of NESC.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Required

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.
