Successful Candidate Will Have

  • Sound statistical acumen, interpretation, and analytical ability
  • Familiarity with wind energy and wildlife issues
  • Familiarity with federal and state-listed species in central California (such as California condor, California tiger salamander, tricolored blackbird, Swainson’s hawk, etc.)
  • Detailed understanding of avian protection laws (Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act) and related wind energy guidance documents and policies
  • Detailed knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
  • Experience working on or with Technical Advisory Committees associated with renewable projects
  • Experience writing Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with diverse groups including operation staff, developers, other industry representatives, NGO stakeholders, agency personnel, and consultants
  • Proficient at interacting with public and local elected officials at open houses, local zoning meetings, or during other outreach events
  • Experience reviewing consultant work related to wind energy wildlife issues
  • Provides strategic advice regarding risk management of protected species and their habitat (avoidance, minimization, and mitigation)
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time; often on short notice
