Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light Company seeks a talented environmental professional that is motivated, self-directed and results-driven to join the Corporate Environmental Services department.

The applicant must have relevant experience to provide subject matter and technical expertise and/or oversight of assigned tasks. This includes having sufficient relevant experience and knowledge of Florida clean-up regulations, including contaminated site clean-up criteria, and/or petroleum clean-up programs so that applicant can develop site rehabilitation strategies and recommendations, provide guidance, and oversee site characterization and remediation projects.

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent federal, state, regional, and local environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, contractors/consultants, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters. The applicant must help ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, as well as company policies and environmental management systems.

The selected candidate will possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, technical, analytical, and communication skills.

The job location will be in Pensacola, Florida. Limited travel to support projects may be required.

This position is responsible for managing soil and groundwater remediation projects in accordance with applicable Florida Department of Environmental (FDEP) requirements. The position will be responsible for all aspects of assigned remediation project coordination including site assessment, groundwater monitoring, risk evaluations, remedial action plan development, compliance reporting and interface with State and Local agencies. The position will provide support for groundwater remediation systems operation and maintenance and compliance sampling as needed.

Other Responsibilities May Include

  • Support the company’s compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Review site assessment, groundwater monitoring, and remediation action plan reports.
  • Develop, manage, and implement compliance tracking systems to monitor remediation project deadlines.
  • Manage groundwater remediation system operation and maintenance.
  • Lead and support implementation of assigned FDEP approved remediation plans including oversight of field work and preparation of groundwater monitoring reports.
  • Compile budget projections for assigned remediation projects and track costs.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with industry peers, internal clients, and business partners that promote a high degree of mutual respect and recognized integrity.
  • Interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including storm duty.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Experience in developing and reviewing technical documents related to Site Characterization and Remediation of impacts to soil, groundwater, and sediments.
  • GIS skills are a plus
  • Professional Geologist/ Hydrogeologist Certification in Florida
  • Current OSHA HAZWoper certification
  • CPR certified
  • Experience tracking project cost and developing budget projections
