Akkodis is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer working within the Battery Team, for a 12 month (with likely extensions) contract position with Wabtec. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment in a mechanical/design role.
The battery team is very focused on the packaging of the battery itself. This team is responsible for the cooling of the batteries including all the plumbing and the thermal management unit. The individual should have experience with thermal management analysis and experience with cooling systems.

Role Summary/ Purpose:
The Energy Storage Packaging Engineer will be responsible for documenting design requirements, developing concepts to meet those requirements, and completing detailed analysis and validation for selected design concepts. In this role, you will support Wabtec engineering in completing formal design reviews of assigned equipment. You will work directly with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure adequate process capability for quality and cost. As production maturity is reached, you will oversee initial builds and provide feedback to engineering for future improvements of the design.
Essential Responsibilities:
• As the Energy Storage Packaging Engineer provide the technical expertise required for design, build, and validation as necessary to ensure final system meets functional goals.
• Lead continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
• Partner with Supply Chain to ensure part costing align to allocations
• Project management in meeting deliverable due dates
• Develop, execute and document Verification and Validation of design
• Adherence to NA and Global standards
• Perform detailed design analysis (FMEA, FEA, Bolted Joint, Material)
• Ability to pivot design direction as new information arises (modification of existing to clean sheet)
• Lead new component development and PPAP qualification
• Point of contact with Supply Chain on vendor down selection and parts development
• Lead Pugh matrix development and review for optimized design
• Leverage 6 Sigma methodologies in meeting or exceeding reliability targets
• Willingness to work in a dynamic cross functional environment
• Consult with manufacturing and engineering to define optimized manufacturing methods and process details to ensure compliance to internal and external specifications
• Work with Maintenance, Manufacturing and Quality to optimize design
Qualifications:
5+ years of demonstrated experience in the field of mechanical engineering, with relevant experience on Liquid cooled thermal management systems.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
Experience and demonstrated proficiency with: liquid cooled thermal management; related component specification, selection, and design.
Designing piping system for engine cooling, power electronics cooling or battery cooling systems. Knowledge of packaging requirements related to high voltage equipment.
Experience with heat transfer through conduction, natural convection, and forced convection applications and related techniques.
3D CAD Modeling tools.
Finite element simulation tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys.
Must be able to work in and around large pieces of ground transportation equipment, in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting, and in a heavy industrial laboratory environment.
Must be able to set up instrumentation and test apparatus and conduct validation testing on large industrial transportation and mining vehicles.
Strong oral, written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
