Job Description

Our Client is an innovative Electric Vehicle Manufacturer at the forefront of sustainable transportation, having spent the past decade designing and developing electric mobility vehicles and platforms for commercial application. As they work through the final design validation stage, moving into the launch and large-scale manufacturing of their vehicles, it’s an exciting time to come on board and join them on their journey.

As a result, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Director of Software Controls to join their team. As the Director of Software Controls, you will manage the control systems architecture and lead the Vehicle Controls Software team. You will ensure effective technology is used to meet product and customer needs and oversee the implementation of on-vehicle communication interfaces. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you will collaborate with mechanical and controls counterparts and support team growth through talent selection and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for complete control systems architecture including vehicle network strategy, wiring, vehicle electrical modules, diagnostics, and software.
  • Develop engineering strategy and procedures.
  • Understanding of the principles and applications associated with the company’s core activities.
  • Plan and develop new projects and initiatives and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet product development and/or customer requirements.
  • Lead the Vehicle Controls Software development team on topics related to energy storage.
  • Oversee the design and build of vehicle controls software, focused primarily on systems integration and tuning.
  • Sign and test vehicle controls algorithms, focused primarily on energy efficiency
  • Define, implement, and validate all relevant on-vehicle communication interfaces
  • Implement and validate communication interfaces between battery and off-vehicle equipment
  • Troubleshoot vehicle controls issues throughout the duration of testing and production
  • Support the growth of the controls team through selection of talent, tools, and processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics or Computer Software Engineering
  • Comfortable working with low-voltage and high-voltage systems
  • Excellent communication Team building and relationship building skills
  • Opened and closed-loop control systems for sensors, actuators, body controllers, ECUs, etc.
  • Low voltage components such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
  • High voltage components such as DCDC, motor and inverter, battery, and on-board charger, etc.
  • CAN-Bus, LIN, and Ethernet communication
  • Minimum of 15 years of vehicle controls system development & design, electrical component development, electrical systems validation (hardware/software), and launch experience
  • 10 plus years’ experience in Electrical Engineering within the automotive sector is desired
  • Good working knowledge and application experiences with DFMEA, Six Sigma design, lean engineering, and other problem-solving methodologies.
  • Proven Leader: excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Commercial, business, and financial management experience
  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Broad experience with a wide range of automotive electrical systems
  • Understanding of ISO26262 and ASPICE processes
  • Must have the ability to develop electrical architecture solutions

Location: Southfield Area, MI (Onsite)

Term: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Salary: $160,000 – $180,000 P/A – Negotiable on experience
