What To Expect
This is an opportunity to work in the Cell Qualification and R&D group, which is responsible for the testing and qualification of Tesla’s next-generation Li-ion battery cells and development of new cell test methods. This candidate’s primary role will be laboratory test execution, life-cycle characterization, and mechanical testing. The ideal candidate will exhibit outstanding attention to detail, interest in developing inspection skills, and aptitude for electrical and mechanical test methods, which are all required to identify subtle issues that could impact Tesla’s battery cell performance. The candidate will work alongside a diverse team of engineers and technicians to advance technology that provides sustainable transportation, energy storage and generation. This individual must demonstrate the desire to drive continuous internal process improvement methods through critical thinking skills.
What You’ll Do
Operate battery test equipment to perform routine laboratory cell level testing, including electrical characterization (cycle life, calendar life and performance characterization), dimensional inspections and mechanical testsManage and organize battery cell test samples through their entire life cycle. This includes: incoming quality inspection, cell inventory and tracking, test registration, labeling, recording results in a database, verifying data quality, transporting samples, load cells on test equipment, monitor ongoing testsCompile, organize, summarize and communicate test data to Test EngineersCommunicate issues observed in sample, process, test or documentation to DupervisorParticipate in test fixture design, instrument and assemble cells into test setupManage laboratory equipment, including daily verification, preventive maintenance, yearly calibrationIdentify and troubleshoot test equipment and setup as neededSupport laboratory organization and maintain a clean work environment
What You’ll Bring
Experience working with common cell cycling hardware (Arbin, Maccor, Neware, Bio-logic, PEC, Bitrode, AV, Gamry)Knowledge of standard electronics tools including DC meters, power supplies, oscilloscopesExperience in wiring and solderingExperience with metrology and data acquisition systemsStrong interest for lithium-ion battery technologyKnowledge of safety hazards of working with electrical and mechanical testing of lithium-ion batteriesAbility to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
