Title: Senior Data Scientist

Reporting: Director of Digital Transformation

Location: Roanoke, VA

Position Overview:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our team in Roanoke, VA. This position will be responsible for leveraging data analytics and machine learning to drive our sustainability goals, optimize our operational efficiency, and enhance decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex data analysis projects that offer strategic insights and drive business outcomes
  • Develop and implement machine learning models to predict trends, optimize processes, and improve product quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, environmental science, and marketing, to ensure the alignment of data science projects with corporate sustainability goals
  • Analyze large datasets to identify opportunities for reducing energy consumption, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Design and execute A/B testing frameworks to validate hypotheses and measure the impact of data-driven interventions
  • Communicate complex data insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science and sustainability practices, incorporating cutting-edge techniques and methodologies into projects
  • Mentor junior data scientists and analysts, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of leading data-driven projects that have significant business impact
  • Expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or a similar data science language
  • Experience with big data technologies and tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and metrics in the heavy building materials industry is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • A passion for sustainability and a commitment to driving positive environmental and social change
