Daikin Applied is seeking a Director of Regulatory and Industry Affairs! This key contributor will develop specific strategies and oversee activities related to environmental regulations affecting assigned products/solutions, ensuring internal stakeholders are apprised of proposed and pending regulations and interact with external stakeholders and regulatory bodies during development of regulations. He or She will lead a matrixed team to create and implement DAA’s decarbonization, energy, refrigerants and indoor environmental quality strategies. This leader will understand external trends and policies that impact assigned products/solutions, comprehend business risks and opportunities from multiple aspects, communicate them to leaders and incorporate them into strategies and action plans. In addition, he or she will collaborate with other Daikin environmental regulatory entities to ensure unified strategies and effective execution to achieve positive business results. This person may present solutions and advocacy plans to senior and executive leaders. This role reports to the VP, DAA Environmental Promotion Office. Location: Remote – Plymouth, MN

What you will do:

  • Provide influential leadership across assigned products/solutions
  • Serve as the expert in assigned environmental and regulatory areas
  • Provide technical expertise to develop marketing and training materials and trains employees, customers and sales partners
  • Periodically interact with internal and external senior and executive leaders
  • Advise senior and executive leadership regarding matters of environmental and regulatory significance
  • Develop DAA environmental strategies and policies in collaboration with other Daikin entities
  • Work with affected internal departments (e.g., marketing, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, etc.) to estimate the expected impact of proposed regulations on company products and the installation of the products. Develop strategies for optimal alignment of regulations with company goals and priorities
  • Influence Daikin Industries Limited Environmental Policy and adapt said policy across DAA
  • Represent DAA on NAEC working groups and Preparatory Committee that reviews documents and positions prior to official NAEC meetings. Attends North America Environmental Committee meetings
  • Decide DAA position when negotiating/advocating with other parties including but not limited to government agencies, NGOs, industry associations, etc.
  • Advocate for Daikin with several external associations, bodies government and nongovernment to accomplish DAA’s business strategies and minimize risk
  • Understand current and future needs (more than 10 years) of stakeholders through extensive research and collaboration with global experts and alliances (government and non-government)
  • Collaborate with R&D functions in conjunction with 5S and engineering leaders to establish multi-generational technology and solutions plans for promising areas of research or technology that address unmet needs and have large potential markets
  • Monitor North American federal (U.S. and Canada) and provincial (Canada) regulations that directly or indirectly affect DAA products/solutions. For example; energy, decarbonization, refrigerants and/or IEQ
  • Interact with industry trade association staff and committees to develop industry position for the regulations. For example; AHRI, ASHRAE, HARDI, SMACNA, ACCA
  • Interact with other stakeholders and advocates, non-government organizations, governmental regulatory agencies, safety agencies, utilities and utility organizations in regard to regulations
  • Oversee company activities related to related building codes. For example; UMC, IRC, IMC or IFC
  • Provide company representation/participation in key technical and regulatory committees for standards and regulations affecting company products/solutions
  • Work with internal personnel in development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures related to compliance with published related regulations, including regulatory agency reporting requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • 4 Year Bachelor’s Degree
  • 12+ Years of industry and regulatory knowledge and experience

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • HVAC Industry experience
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards
