To better serve undergraduate students, the Department of History is seeking an Academic Advisor who will (a) provide academic advising and resources to undergraduate students who are pursuing a major or certificate in History and (b) create new initiatives aimed at engaging and supporting the success of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds, including students of color and other historically underrepresented students (veterans, first-generation college students, students with disabilities, Pell-eligible students, etc.). The department currently serves approximately 650 declared majors and certificate students. The Academic Advisor will join the History Undergraduate Program Team and collaborate with Department of History staff and faculty to provide comprehensive and holistic student services to undergraduate students.
This person in this position will:
~ Provide student-centered academic advising services through remote and in-person appointments to assigned and exploring undergraduate students.
~ Collaborate with departmental and university partners to create programs and resources aimed at increasing students’ sense of belonging and inclusion.
~ Maintain and develop resources to aid students in the exploration and successful completion of the department’s undergraduate programs.
~ Manage course selection and enrollment of Senior Guest Auditors.
~ Stay current on University and College policies and resources related to academics and supporting student success.
In addition to home departments, advisors in L&S are a part of an active advising community and interdependent system. During the academic year, L&S advisors meet monthly as a consortium for information sharing and ongoing training. All L&S advisors also contribute to the campus Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) program, for a couple of weeks in summer and a few days in January, to advise new L&S first-year and transfer students.
Engages students in decision making processes and promotes appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters such as course selection and degree requirements. Maintains appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contributes to the development and delivery of academic advising related events and programs. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

The typical starting salary for this position is $44,543 to $63,697 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $44,543 to $82,851. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
This position requires that most work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Academic Advisors may be eligible for up to two days a week of remote work at an offsite, non-campus location after onboarding and training are completed.
