Oxbow Calcining LLC is currently looking for a Material Technician to join our team in the Port Arthur, Texas location. This position will be responsible to Collect, prepare and analyze samples representing raw materials, finished products and customer shipments, adhering to ASTM or accepted company procedures to ensure customer requirements are being maintained.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Collects raw and calcined coke samples for quality control analysis. Performs special collections and analyses if needed.
  • Prepares raw and calcined coke samples for laboratory tests, in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Perform some Laboratory testing as required
  • Communicates lab data as needed to lab supervisor and/or lab manager
  • Perform some data entry as required
  • Cleans up sample room, and spillage, including proper disposal of raw and calcined coke samples and retains.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on sample room equipment. If needed, may assist maintenance personnel on an as-needed basis in the repair and adjustment of equipment.
  • Advises the supervisor on matters relating to the improvement and the continued safe functioning of sample room equipment and facilities.
  • Operates all mobile equipment required to perform job duties and check oil, water, battery and fuel.
  • Maintains emergency equipment, such as flashlight and rain suit for possible use during a storm.
  • Reports all injuries, regardless of seriousness, immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, personnel, timekeeping, payroll, attendance and other plant procedures or guidelines.
  • Maintains communications with the supervisor and coworkers on matters concerning daily activities.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • May sit or stand for extended amount of time.
  • May work outdoors which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.
  • As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas.
  • Must be able to handle working with petroleum coke products and use respiratory protection
  • Able to work in dusty environment
  • Must be able to work with hand tools
  • Must be able to load and unload heavy equipment, either with manual labor or by operating machinery.
  • Must train in safety requirements at the facility.
  • Must be required to move about to coordinate work.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Will be on call as needed.
  • Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to contractors and to convey detailed Instructions to other workers.
