Opportunity Summary

As the Maintenance Manager, you will lead the implementation of comprehensive maintenance programs to enhance plant performance, focusing on preventive, predictive, and corrective strategies. You will oversee daily maintenance operations, manage staffing and training, and ensure compliance with safety regulations while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, you will analyze plant performance metrics and drive initiatives aimed at optimizing efficiency and reducing operational costs, all while collaborating closely with management and external contractors.

Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as Maintenance Manager will include the following primary functions:

  • Implement the plant’s preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance program.
  • Manage equipment failure records to diagnose root causes and track forced outages and loss of generation, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Employ best-in-class techniques to enhance plant performance, including capacity, heat rate, and availability.
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance staff.
  • Manage and monitor both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, including outage planning.
  • Ensure the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is used for tracking maintenance history, work orders, purchase orders, and inventory control.
  • Oversee maintenance team staffing, training, and qualification plans, including hiring personnel.
  • Align maintenance personnel goals with facility and owner objectives.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the Operations Manager on the effectiveness of the Training Manual.
  • Foster a safe work environment, promoting safety awareness and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement incentive programs and maintain safety records as outlined in the Plant’s Safety Manual.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to identify necessary maintenance activities for enhancing operability.
  • Identify and execute plant improvement projects aimed at enhancing performance and reducing corrective maintenance.
  • Develop a reliability-centered maintenance program to minimize costs while maximizing availability.
  • Enhance the plant’s image as a good neighbor and encourage staff involvement in community activities.
  • Provide necessary reports to the owner and/or utilities and oversee essential plant logs and records.
  • Provide leadership to all plant personnel, enhancing morale and handling employee concerns.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of maintenance policies and procedures for alignment with current goals and standards.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Complete special projects as required by the Plant Manager.

Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Monitor overall plant performance, including combustion and steam turbines and the HRSG. Identify, trend, and analyze plant heat rate and efficiency.
  • Perform reliability studies to maximize availability and capacity factors.
  • Review plant designs and generate recommendations to reduce operational costs.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with plant goals.
  • Manage capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and guarantees.
  • Develop and manage contracts and work scopes for external contractors.
  • Assist in investigating plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, providing analyses and recommendations.
  • Administer the Configuration Control Program to ensure high-quality documentation.

  • Conduct/Support Regular Safety Meetings at least monthly.

  • Establish and lead these activities following any rules, requirements, or guidance established in your business unit, group, or division.
  • Involve all NAES teammates in the activities.
  • Analyze results, write work orders, and provide training and education to eliminate hazards and at-risk behavior, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular observation tours: perform at least two safety observation tours of high-risk activities, such as confined space operations, to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Maintain regular and frequent contacts with workers: conduct one-on-one sessions to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors, such as ensuring the use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Respond to incidents: address all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining the incident, identify the cause, and recommend corrective action; follow up to ensure corrective action is taken according to established business unit or division practices.

Working Relationships

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Manager coordinates with other plant management, as well as other plant personnel in the daily operation of the plant.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. “On call” status will periodically be required. Some travel may be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $135,000 to $170,000, and will include an annual performance bonus.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent is desired, providing a strong foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management.
  • Significant experience in maintenance management within a power plant or similar industrial setting, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering, with a strong background in managing combustion and steam turbines, HRSG systems, and plant performance.
  • Proficiency in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking maintenance history, work orders, and inventory management.
  • Ability to analyze equipment failures and maintenance data to diagnose root causes and improve plant performance metrics such as capacity and efficiency.
  • Experience managing capital improvement projects and outage planning, ensuring compliance with budgetary and operational goals.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor maintenance staff, fostering a collaborative environment and aligning team goals with organizational objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and best practices, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements while promoting a culture of safety.
