Role and Responsibilities:

We are seeking an Operations Technician for our Baytown 2 plant located in Baytown, TX. The operations technician will operate and maintain a large Air Separation Unit (ASU) to produce liquid Nitrogen, Argon and Oxygen.

The Baytown 2 hydrogen facility includes a refinery offgas purification unit, a hydrogen compression system and a package steam generator. The Baytown 2 operations team also provides support for the operation of two local satellites including an oxygen facility in Houston, TX and Nitrogen generator in Conroe, TX.

This is a 12-hour shift position that works a rotating shift. You will report to the Site Supervisor.

  • Controlling and monitoring the processes that produce nitrogen, oxygen, and argon (e.g., utility systems, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS operation).
  • Solving plant process upsets using various indicators and DCS trends.
  • Maintain water chemistry/Calibrate/Operate multiple analyzers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks, safety inspections and plant log readings.
  • Issue safety work permits and perform lock out / tag out of various process equipment.
  • Assist with liquid product trailer loading.
  • Inspect all work areas on a continuous basis for any mechanical problems, safety hazards and unusual operating conditions. Keep work and storage areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Ensure that all plant safety, health, environmental and quality procedures are followed.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating operating procedures as required.
  • Interplant travel and operational support for two local satellite plants as needed.
  • Commitment to Operational Excellence with a focus on safe and reliable operation.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret plant P&IDs and drawings.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Computer skills required for Digital Control Systems (DCS) operation, as well as basic computer skills in data-processing, and electronic communication (MS Office)
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and fulfill on-call shift requirements.
  • Commitment to safety a must.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field a plus.
  • Plant process experience and/or Process Technology degree/certification desired.
