Job Description

Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is hiring a temporary Technical Consultant II (Transuranic Waste) with an estimated 500 hours of work. Can be Remote. Travel is potential.

Navarro provides technical and professional services to support the Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) and Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). We provide subject matter experts and assist CBFO with WIPP site operations and health and safety, including nuclear safety, oversight. We support CBFO with implementation of their quality assurance, waste management, and environmental and regulatory compliance programs, including developing strategies and engineering design and construction solutions to improve site operations. Navarro also provides program/project management support as well as audits/assessments and implementation of scientific programs.

This position will review documents and provide technical evaluations on transuranic waste for transportation to and disposal at WIPP. Review Chemical Compatibility Evaluations (CCEs) for chemical constituents in mixed radioactive waste against requirements in the WIPP waste acceptance criteria and Waste Analysis Plan of the WIPP Hazardous Waste Facility Permit. Assist the CBFO Waste Management Senior Technical Advisor in evaluating difficult waste streams. Participate in discussions associated with transuranic waste and advise/make recommendations to CBFO personnel involved in the National TRU Program. Other TRU waste related review and recommendation actions as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of study with 20 years of experience OR a master’s degree in an applicable field of study with 15 years of experience, OR a Ph.D. in a related discipline with 10 years of experience (as approved by the Contracting Officer). A TC II should have demonstrated expert knowledge and specialized experience (as requested by the Contracting Officer – due to industry recognition) in hazardous or nuclear waste generation or waste management, or as a RCRA regulator or facility expert, or in a technical discipline associated with the operation of a nuclear facility or laboratory.
