Location: Remote with travel

Reports To: SVP Development

Job Summary:

The Environmental/Permitting Manager will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring environmental compliance and sustainability for utility scale wind development projects. This role requires a deep understanding of environmental regulations, project management, and the renewable energy sector, particularly wind power.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all wind development projects comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Obtain and manage environmental permits and licenses.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans for all stages of wind projects, from planning to decommissioning.
  • Coordinate with project teams to integrate environmental considerations into project designs and operations.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance and progress.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders to address environmental concerns and ensure compliance.
  • Represent the company at public hearings, meetings, and other forums related to environmental issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the sustainability of wind projects.
  • Promote best practices in environmental management and renewable energy.
  • Identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Train and support project teams on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging environmental regulations, technologies, and trends in renewable energy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the renewable energy sector or wind power industry.
  • Proven track record in managing environmental compliance for large-scale projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in environmental management software and tools.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), or similar are desirable.
