Chemours is seeking an R&D Lab Technician to join our growing R&D Operations team! This position will report directly to the R&D Staff Supervisor at our Elkton, MD location.

With guidance from supervision, the R&D Technician will operate a film casting line process to run R&D trials, scale up products with direction from R&D Scientists and Engineers, and implement improvements to the area. The Technician will also be responsible for other facility functions part of the coating process. Tasks will be performed according to accepted methods and training prescribed by the work group.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Pilot scale operation of high hazard chemical processes at the 55-gal scale, including dispensing and mixing of ingredients and operation of casting line
  • Handling and manipulation of chemicals: compressed gas cylinders, 55-gal drums
  • Management and safe execution of wet chemistry experiments using corrosive, toxic, and flammable chemicals
  • Monitor and adjust chemical processes using automated control systems to successfully complete batch or continuous casting process
  • Troubleshoot equipment or product issues
  • Documenting and auditing specific operating, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Understand complex Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Machine Safety Planning where necessary
  • Participate in R&D development and planning for experimental trials
  • Implementation of R&D standards and practices for the facility
  • Lead ISO 9001 quality management program in the area
  • Own and maintain the inventory management system for raw materials and products
  • Communicate with outside contractors when necessary to assist with repairs and improvements to the area

The Following Is Required For This Role

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5 – 8 years of experience in chemical process or industrial operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications with a focus on data entry, such as Word, Excel, SharePoint
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Mechanical skills for using small hand tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety programs and methodologies (JSA, PHA, RCFA, etc.)
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Self-motivation, able to work independently to complete given tasks
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs. and move drums/containers using correct ergonomic methods

The Following Is Preferred For This Role

  • Associates degree or higher in chemical process operation or chemistry
  • 10+ years related industrial experience
  • Knowledge of process control and instrumentation concepts
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality standards
  • Knowledge of Environmental Compliance Practices
