Job Description

The Mechanical Superintendent at Strata Clean Energy will be responsible for providing coordination, planning, and supervision to labor, forepersons, contractors, and craft activities on utility scale solar and/or BESS sites. This position requires extensive travel to all sites in the United States. The Mechanical Superintendent will manage assigned projects, including overseeing field and mechanical operations, general safety, productivity, schedule, quality work, coordination with other superintendents and project leaders on the jobsite.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and direct the work activities of mechanical activities on job sites. Work with Construction Manager and Project Manager in development of project schedules and updates, and look-ahead activities.
  • Direct personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.
  • Coordination of personnel, material, and equipment needed to meet schedules. Ensure work teams have needed resources and support.
  • Supervise and ensure quality control of work team, including self-performed and subcontracted work.
  • Manage the interface with appropriate personnel concerned with the mechanical transmission systems.
  • Support project and construction management with planning and utilization of proper means and methods for mechanical (rather than electrical) activities.
  • Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems and evaluate realistic options; and recommend/implement appropriate course of action.
  • Adhere to and support the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Policies.
  • Identify welding certification, training and experience appropriate for assignment scope, and work with engineering, construction and many other departments present at Solar sites.
  • Communicate effectively and train employees.
  • Typically serve as lead person to coordinate process piping/mechanical activities within their assigned scope and in an active construction work site.
  • Coordinate and implement activities and any other resource necessary to assure a safe and quality execution.
  • Generally responsible to assure all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and is in full compliance.
  • May interact with Owner’s Field Representative and outside testing agencies and be able to work communicate well with them.
  • Supervise staff and perform evaluations and corrective action when necessary.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 7+ year’s supervisory experience, including 5+ years of supervising self-performing Mechanical Superintendent duties.
  • Proficiency in all areas of superintendent work, where mechanical expertise is required.
  • Knowledgeable about current mechanical methods, equipment, assembly, and use of equipment used on sites.
  • Possess working knowledge of drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and be able to utilize, demonstrate and supervise proper usage of equipment by employees in this power industry.
  • Possess job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Proven ability promoting outstanding customer service and client relations.
  • Excellent computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and electronic presentation programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Possess current valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a field environment and travel is required.
  • Will be required to perform some physical labor.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 25 pounds.
