Company

Piper Maddox have partnered with a very important investor in the energy transition who are investing in companies at second or third project level. They are a specialty finance firm focused in impactful, future thinking sustainable investments for the environment and social economy including investments, but not limited to, renewable and clean energy, renewable fuels, sustainable agriculture and food supply chain, and more. Some examples include Solar, Fisheries, Strawberry Farms and Worm Farms.

As a 5 years old business, they have already committed over $400M in funds and have raised over $1B in total from investors that include Macquarie and Oak Tree Capital. With much more to invest, they are growing the team with recent investment partners joining the firm and needing support from high-level, passional and entrepreneurially minded analysts and associates with deal team experience.

Role

  • Sits on the deal team, supporting and leading due diligence and portfolio work
  • The analyst needs at least 1 year of experience in IB / PE (post internship)
  • Looking for 1 Associate in Washington DC and 1 in Boulder, CO
  • Ideal sectors: Solar wind, transportation, clean energy, food, ag, and water or similar
  • The business consists of 3 investment partners, 1 VP, a pool of associates, and one analyst.
  • Assist with tracking investment models and developing portfolio models
  • Support with developing, auditing, and improving financial models for the Investment Team’s transactions and invested portfolios
  • Evaluate the net present value, IRR, MOIC and other operating metrics for investments
  • Support due diligence and underwriting of investments
  • Evaluate research data and incorporate it in our models and investment memoranda
  • Prepare presentation materials on prospective investments for internal and external uses
  • Work with the Asset Management team to support their efforts on tracking the investment once the capital is deployed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a concentration in Finance, Economics, Engineering or Mathematics.
  • 2-4 years of experience for Associate in private equity, project finance or investment banking supporting an energy transition or sustainability deal team.
  • 4-6 years of experience for Sr. Associate in private equity, project finance or investment banking supporting an energy transition or sustainability deal team.
  • Requires Excel financial modeling skills with experience developing and managing complex financial models, ideally involving structured debt/equity investments;
  • Must have passion for sustainability, climate change investing and company building.
  • Desire to focus primarily on financial modeling and analytics.
  • Attention to detail, team-oriented, collaborative;
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and independent problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (including writing, speaking, and listening);
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • The main consideration is this person needs to be a strong financial modeler, Ideally coming from PF, IB, or PE.

This role pays $130k – $150k base salary at the associate level.
