We are looking for a Senior Staff Civil Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Sr. Principal Civil Engineer and will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a design plan set and specifications, including but not limited to, grading, drainage, and foundations for the installation of Bloom Energy fuel cell systems to be used for application submission for Utility, Building Department/AHJ review and permitting and ultimately Construction.
  • Work closely with other Mechanical and Electrical engineers within team to optimize designs, develop and maintain design standards and template specifications, and perform engineering design tasks and calculations.
  • Think outside the box to find innovative solutions to reduce product and installation costs without negative impacts on quality and reliability.
  • Manage external partners and consultants through the design and construction process.
  • Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously while foreseeing and managing internal Project Manager’s expectation regarding project-specific deliverables and schedule variables.
  • Understanding of structural calculations and their influence on site designs, as related to equipment foundations, parcel grading, and building interior conduit routing.
  • Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, and interfacing with authorities having jurisdiction. Anticipated travel is approximately 10%.

Skills Required:

  • Working with a design team and individually on projects to prepare complex utility site layouts, detailed construction drawings and details, quantity take-offs, and verifying the accuracy of drawings.
  • Must have experience in development of storm water management, erosion/sediment control, grading, and drainage plans from concept design through permitting & approvals and construction completion.
  • Knowledge of codes related to construction projects (i.e. IBC, NFPA, NEC, ASCE, AWWA)
  • Substantive experience with permitting agencies and developing a permit drawing set.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Professional and collaborative – comfortable working closely with a team of multi-discipline engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Self-starter, proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills and the ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and optimize the design and constructability of site designs. Detail oriented with the ability to drive complex tasks to closure.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills that include a minimum of the following:
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to interact with engineers of different disciplines.
  • Ability to make decisions on key technical issues in a demanding, fast paced environment

Education and Experience:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • FE Engineering Certificate required
  • PE license preferred, or planned within 18 months of hire
  • 5+ years of site-civil engineering experience, including site development, grading, paving, storm water, and utility design.
  • Structural experience preferred
  • Experience in the energy sector is preferred,
  • Must have experience working broader design discipline, specifically electrical and mechanical to create construction drawings.
  • Understanding of electrical equipment (e.g. diesel generators, UPS systems, transfer switches) and other relevant components, and the code requirements associated with installing these components is preferred.

Salary Ranges:

$127,100.00 – $182,900.00
