The opportunity:

This is an in-office role and will be working with both the financial and manufacturing sides of the business. This role will be focusing on management reporting around the cost of manufacturing, bridging the gap between financial insights and operational efficiencies. In addition, this role will assist with all EOM close processes. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with data analytics and tools such as Power BI.

To help maintain and grow this standard, we’re seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to assist both HIG brands in our Finance department. The ideal candidate will have a sharp business mind and proven success in financial statements, cost accounting, and end of month processes. This person has a positive outlook and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

What you’ll do:

 

  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  •  Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Prepares month-end closing entries for the recording of all cost accounting activities.
  • Analyzes manufacturing variances, preparing written explanations supporting the monthly forecast.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports departmental costs, both actual and standard. Works closely with department managers to understand actual and forecasted departmental costs.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Participates in the implementation of automated systems to improve accounting functions.
  • Sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and assists in closing the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts, verifies bank activity as necessary, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  •  Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies as necessary.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve proprietary tools and systems, complete projects, and identify and address areas of opportunity.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

This is not a supervisory role but may serve as back-up in the absence of the Accounting Manager.

What we need:

Education/experience:

  • Experience: At least 5+ years of Finance/Accounting experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting, Finance, Related

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting 
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to correctly prepare sales tax reports 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software and accounting software
