Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years experience in electrical engineering (with a preference for industrial experience within large petrochemical/ chemical manufacturing facilities)
  • A background working for a utilities or solar company, battery farms, or renewable energy company as a principle energy
  • Strong understanding and troubleshooting knowledge of power distribution systems (including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relaying up to 138kV)
  • Proficient in power system analysis software sycg as ETAP or SKM PowerTools
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations (ex. IEEE, NEC, ANSI, etc.)
  • Familiarity with programming and communication of SCADA systems
  • Knowledge with programming of SEL and GE relays
  • Team player attitude

Plusses:

  • A background in electrical engineering working for / in a chemical environment
  • Experience with higher voltage work rather than lower (avoid instrumentation)
  • Someone who is coachable and can grow in the role

Day-to-Day:

Insight Global is looking for a Power Distribution Engineer to join their team in Freeport, Texas. This engineer will be working with a team of 5 technicians and 2 engineers. They will work 4 ten-hour days and have Fridays off, and be 100% onsite. This candidate will be designing, developing, and maintaining the power distribution electrical and communication systems for BASF chemical manufacturing facilities. They will conduct power system studies, including load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies, to ensure system reliability and compliance with safety standards. In addition, they will provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams for troubleshooting power system issues and serving as a subject matter expert on power systems engineering, providing training and mentorship to junior engineers as needed; team player attitude and ability to work on a team is a must. This Power Distribution Engineer will also review and approve electrical designs and specifications for new projects and modifications through collaboration with internal stakeholders and external contractors to implement system upgrades and expansions. They will develop, implement, and optimize preventive maintenance programs for critical power system equipment as well. Staying current with industry trends, standards, and best practices related to power systems engineering will also be required. 5% to 10% of their day will consist of reliability and SCADA (operating on DCS/ control systems networks for all of switchgear, working on maintenance strategy, criticality assessments), 30% of their day will consist of reliability and productivity maintenance alongside capital work, and 30% will consist of tactical work (supporting techs and troubleshooting). They will also have power reports once a month. Someone who has a good personality, team player attitude, ability to work on a team and grow is encouraged.
