Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy’s Power Generation Division is looking for a Senior Combustion Turbine Engineer to join the Combustion Turbine Fleet Team (CTFT).

Candidate shall have extensive knowledge regarding the operation and maintenance of a diverse OEM combustion turbine fleet, with a focus on GE 7FA/HA combustion turbines. This would include a basic knowledge (to varying degrees) of all turbine generator mechanical sub-systems, basic design, vibration, performance, preventative and corrective maintenance, equipment alignment, repairs, outage practices, start-up, troubleshooting and control system interactions. The ideal candidate will have detailed knowledge of the CT and all its auxiliary systems including but not limited to the lube oil system, hydraulic system, gas fuel system, liquid fuel system, inlet bleed heat system and operation of the machine during transients such as start-up and shutdown. This position will include responsibilities for leading technical support for a large fleet of combustion turbines, with ownership of troubleshooting, work/outage planning, and fleet reliability improvements. Additionally, this role will include working on strategic initiatives with the ongoing Decarbonization and FCWE efforts to reduce forced outage rates, O&M expense, and to improve overall fleet reliability and availability.

Responsibilities

  • Candidate would be expected to work in a team environment while although displaying exceptional initiative to self-manage tasks and projects.
  • Defining maintenance cycles while working with other departments to ensure parts and personal availability for scheduled outages will be one of the candidates’ key tasks in this role.
  • Typical daily tasks include working with plant personnel with troubleshooting and resolving operational issues to support the timely return to service of gas turbine assets.
  • Planning and prioritizing upcoming capital equipment outage maintenance activities, providing onsite support to the Central Maintenance organization with condition assessment inspections of components, provide technical evaluation and provide resolution recommendations for out of spec conditions.
  • Review and evaluate repair recommendations for capital components by OEMs and 3rd Party suppliers. Develop and evaluate equipment life extension/betterment projects providing technical recommendations for equipment improvements or replacements, provide project cost evaluations and managing implementation of approved projects.
  • Manage the technical evaluation of component capability, reliability and durability with OEMs and 3rd Party Suppliers. Using quality tools (RCA, FMEA, etc.) to determine failure modes and corrective actions and using durability tools (Campbell Diagrams, Goodman Plots and Modal Analysis, etc.) to evaluate parts life issues.
  • Utilizing quality tool to perform operational risk management for units
  • After-hours support typically involves frequent phone consultations with actual Callouts on rare occasions.
  • Actively participate in strategic/proactive efforts to improve productivity and advance fleet reliability.
  • Support parts planning and annual budget planning, ensuring that plans account for fleet lessons learned.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing, installing/commissioning, or maintaining Gas turbines and plant auxiliaries
  • Strong communications/presentation skills
  • Demonstrated field experience
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Familiarity with either the Mark 6, or Ovation Controls Software
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Yellow Belt certification
