Position Title: Utility-Scale Solar Project Design Lead

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Duration: 6 Months (with possible extension)

Department: Engineering

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Utility-Scale Solar Project Design Lead to join our engineering team. In this role, you will lead design teams to develop large-scale solar projects ranging from 50 to 500 MW and beyond. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring efficient collaboration and execution of all design aspects. This position requires a strong background in engineering design, leadership, and proficiency in industry-standard software.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and Manage Design Teams:

  • Lead the design teams in developing utility-scale solar projects (50-500 MW+), ensuring all design aspects meet industry standards and client requirements.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to design engineers, technicians, and other team members.

Collaborate Across Disciplines:

  • Work closely with civil engineers, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff.
  • Produce site plans, detailed engineering drawings, profiles, construction drawings, and other essential documents for Utility Scale Solar PV systems.

Coordinate and Optimize Deliverables:

  • Coordinate deliverables with other groups to minimize interference or errors, ensuring seamless project execution.

Develop and Optimize EPC Designs:

  • Support early-stage project development with conceptual designs and material take-offs.
  • Develop initial system conceptual ideas into fully optimized EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) designs.

Standardize and Innovate:

  • Contribute to the continual development of internal solar engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes.

Utilize Technical Software:

  • Convert field survey data into topographic survey drawings and surfaces suitable for producing site plans and construction drawings.
  • Utilize Excel spreadsheets, commercial, and proprietary engineering software to design Solar PV systems.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design, or a related technology field is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 years of related work experience in utility-scale solar projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation (2D/3D), and Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Bluebeam for drawing and document management.
  • Knowledge of PVCase is preferred but not required.
  • Strong skills in drafting, project development, and construction drawings.
  • Ability to perform take-offs and manage field and topographic surveys.
