Job Description

Job Summary:

A big player in renewable energy is seeking a Safety Engineer to join our dynamic Offshore Wind team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safe execution of a high-profile offshore wind farm project. Collaborating closely with engineering, project management, and construction teams, you will develop and implement comprehensive safety strategies, conduct risk assessments, and drive a culture of safety across the project lifecycle. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of renewable energy while making a significant impact on safety performance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Design Assurance:

Develop processto ensure DesignAssurance is implemented across all relevant Packages within the Project.

Ensure projectvalidation tools are being utilized in the overall designand development.

Ensure that the business processes are being followedas it relates to design assurance objectives.

Record the rationale for the decisions made and/or the overall status of the design assurance indicators in the associated design assurance checklist.

Confirm risksassociated with designhave been appropriately mitigated and documented to ensure design certainty.

Assess the risk as the project approaches key technical decision points; and provides confirmation that the technical solution is beingmanaged appropriately through the implementation of the governing procedures, and regulations.

Design Management:

Implement globalDesign Management Procedure across all packageson the Project.

Coordinate and facilitate Engineering Stage Gate Reviews through all phases of project executionincluding Feasibility, Concept,Basic Design, AdvancedDesign, and Detail Design.

Provide inputand feedback into design maturityand advancement of design stages.

Inform the project decisionmaking process, givinga clear understanding of the level of fixation associated with the design and the level of certainty.

Formalize the record keepingof the design management processand Stage Gate reviews through technical assessments, minutes of meetings, and project decisions via the Project EDMS.

Design Safety:

Prioritize and enforce safetyprotocols in the design phase,managing the Design Risk Register.

Identify potential risks associated with the overall design or potential challenges during manufacturing, installation and operation and develop contingency plans.

Design Optimization:

Identify opportunities to optimize costs without compromising project integrity, performance, or safety.

Evaluate and recommend innovative solutions to enhancethe performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness of the offshore windfarm and transmission system.

Compile TechnicalOpportunities Register to capture opportunities for optimization and innovation.

Reporting:

Develop reportingmethodology to illustrate Package progress througheach phase of the Engineering Stage Gate process.

Provide weekly,bi-weekly, monthly updateson Design Reviewand Assurance as required.

Develop project dashboard for tracking of key items associated with Design Review and Assurance acrossPackages, including compliance to existing project validation tools.

Job Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degreein a relevant engineering discipline with a higher-level degree (e.g., MSc) desirable.

Chartered, PE, or workingtowards Chartered/PE status(or relevant equivalent) desirable.

Experience:

Extensive experience designing and workingin the offshore industry, preferably offshore wind.

Significant experience working in teams involved in large multidisciplinary work packages in international environments.

Experience in dealing with health and safety and environmental legislation associated with construction, marine and offshore projects.

Extensive experience with Engineering Design and Design Management on large scale infrastructure projects, offshore wind, or oil and gas.

Experience with implementation of methodologies associated with design management principles, design assurance, and design safety.

People Management:

Proven communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to influence and develop key engineering decisions.

Tenacity, persistence, and determination to succeed in overcoming obstacles.

HSE (Health,Safety, and Environment):

Understanding of key HSE principles to be implemented into Design Reviewand Assurance activities.

Basic understanding of local, regional, and global HSE regulations (OSHA,etc.).

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to influenceand develop key project and business decisions.

Excellent reportwriting, presentation skillsand ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
