Preferred to identify a Candidate based within the Boston, Ma. area or US East Coast RWE Offshore Wind is looking RWE is hiring a collaborative and experienced Project Director to join our East Coast team to ensure success in its fast-growing US offshore wind business. At RWE, you’re set to become integral to a team characterized by its diversity and growth, working on the forefront of clean energy projects, enhancing interpersonal team relations, and approaching issues with a hands-on mindset.

In this senior mission critical role, you will direct a large cross functional team to develop an offshore wind project for the world’s second largest offshore wind company. You will leverage global expertise with local experience to ensure the success of development, commercialization and delivery of mega infrastructure projects.

Functionally, you will report to the Head of Development, East, and report to a project steering committee comprised of senior executives in the global organization. The ideal candidate will have exemplary project management skills, a refined strategy toolkit, a proven history of collaborating across functions and borders, strong commercial acumen, and experience communicating with senior executives.

Key Responsibilities

  • HSE: Promote our high HSE standards and procedures for offshore wind; share local insights and ensure that global best practices and learnings are implemented locally
  • Guide the development of a large and complex offshore wind project on the east coast. Develop the respective project organization. Report to the project Steering Committee and senior management of RWE Offshore Americas.
  • Represent the project externally in industry forums and drive policy discussions in close alignment with the Communications and Government Affairs team (e.g. to advance market development, including offtake mechanisms, and transmission build out)
  • Coordinate/Interface across project packages including HSE, stakeholder and government affairs, permitting, marine affairs, engineering, partnering, finance, legal, procurement, construction and commercial analysis as needed to ensure effective development of the offshore wind project
  • Define development strategic plan and manage budgets, priorities, schedules and deliverables for assigned offshore wind development projects consistent with financial targets.
  • Business development: Identify, create, assess and implement project / business opportunities, i.e. potential co-operations with local partners and other developers or investors
  • Actively engage with local and regional stakeholders to represent RWE and educate and build support for the offshore wind project
  • Actively engage with the offshore wind supply chain and represent RWE’s interests; monitor and promote technological development

Your Profile

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in leading positions in development of renewable generation projects or large infrastructure projects; Direct US offshore wind experience and or experience in large infrastructure projects.
  • Proven leadership skills and managerial experience, ability to build, develop and motivate highly functioning teams, with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Ability to work in cross-cultural teams and to collaborate across country boundaries.
  • Advanced communication skills with proven ability to influence, influence and build credibility at all levels, across functions of the business. Proven ability to manage large and complex projects, experience navigating a matrix organization and effective ability to inclusively work across functions to leverage organizational expertise to ensure project delivery. 
  • Results-oriented and Entrepreneurial mindset, ability to analyze and summarize complex development topics and aggregate decision-relevant information to convey messages clearly and concisely.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, will be an effective team partner. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial & commercial analysis, comprehensive bidding processes and specifically of drivers that can enable commercialize projects in a progressive environment
  • University degree (BS), Masters preferred
  • Sound understanding of US offshore wind market dynamics & market specific trends and the US electricity market and grid operations
  • Willingness to extended travel regionally and internationally (up to 30%)
