Job Summary:

Wisconsin Athletics prepares student-athletes to win now and beyond. During the 23-24 academic year, as part of our strategic plan, we created a reimagined synergistic approach to the student-athlete opportunity that encompasses the full lifecycle of a Badger student-athlete. This new model includes an all-encompassing individual development plan (IDP), enhanced personal development opportunities and leans on involvement from coaching staff, sport liaisons, alums, and campus and community partners. The reimagined model restructured five administrative units, aligned around a shared vision under one umbrella, called Badger Built. The Badger Built infrastructure is designed to support the future state of college athletics. The units under Badger Built are Academic and Career, Alumni Relations, Engagement and Community Outreach, Leadership and Inclusion, and Student-Athlete Development.

This position will oversee and lead the Academic and Career unit of Badger Built for Wisconsin Athletics. This position will work collaboratively across Badger Built, UW-Madison and nationally to build relationships, coordinate programs and services, and ensure delivery of high impact academic and career opportunities, and strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Directs and oversees advising services and staff within a school/college or institution. Works collaboratively across all levels of the institution to coordinate services, ensure delivery of high impact advising, and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

  • 15% Directs strategic planning efforts and establishes academic service objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with regulations, institutional policies, and the strategic plan
  • 5% Directs and oversees financial management of a unit
  • 10% Directs professional advising staff on programming, initiatives, and curricular updates
  • 10% Evaluates and implements best practices in advising, leverages data, assessment, and technology to drive outcomes
  • 15% Coordinates the planning and execution of advising and academic events and programs
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Participates and leads in the campus-wide advising community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college
  • 10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures for career advising and/or employer relations within a school or college
  • 10% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes career development unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan

Qualifications:

Required:

3+ years experience leading athletic academic staff and large-scale projects/initiatives

Preferred:

  • Previous experience at an Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school leading an athletics academic unit
  • Previous career advising and programming experience
  • Programming and facilitation experience

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Depending on Qualifications

The starting salary for the position is $85,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% Academic Staff appointment. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
