The Day Ahead & Forward Supervisor is part of City Lights Power Marketing team that is responsible for ensuring that City Light customers have reliable, affordable, regulatory compliant power delivered to our customers. The position will also oversee the transmission planning and outage management functions of the Power Operations and Marketing team. The marketing supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the Day-Ahead and Forward Power Marketer team has the necessary training, tools, analysis, and support needed to transact in a dynamic energy market. This position will report to the Sr. Manager of Power Operations & Marketing.

The Power Marketing Supervisor role includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the Day Ahead & Forward Marketers that report to the supervisor.
  • Develop strategy for participating in the CAISO Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) and utilizing scheduling coordinator rights to ensure the marketers are maximizing participation in the EIM and develop new operating procedures for how to maximize revenue and reduce the cost of serving load for City Lights rate payers.
  • Monitor developing Day Ahead Market policy and provide analysis and support to cross functional teams to position City Light effectively for entrance into new markets.
  • Work with After-the-Fact settlements analyst to resolve any settlements disputes and provide clarification for marketing related purchases and sales.
  • During extreme weather events, provide proper streamflow and dam operation strategy to ensure that SCL load is met, and that environmental requirements and downstream safety obligations are maintained.
  • Coordinate Forward and Day-Ahead marketing plans with the Real-Time Operations Supervisor to maximize bilateral and EIM market participation across the trade desks.
  • Prepare analysis for weekly internal risk working groups. Monitor monthly & yearly risk metrics and prepare trading hedge plans to mitigate risk while remaining compliant with internal risk policy.
  • Provide marketing valuation for long term resource and transmission procurement.
  • Train and onboard new employees. Configure and set up existing accounts and certificates with the help of the power systems automation staff.
  • Participate in regional planning activities, Cap and Trade, CETA, Extended Day Ahead Market stakeholder process, and other market related activities.
  • Ensures current outage operations maintenance plans are followed and trade/schedule/plan energy and generation in conjunction with the maintenance plan.
  • Monitor Western Resource Adequacy Program stakeholder initiatives. Represent City Light in regional forums and adapt business processes to remain compliant and strategically positioned within the program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, mathematics, engineering, economics, finance or related field

Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in wholesale energy marketing or operations, resource planning and/or risk management or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.

Desired Qualifications – You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • Expertise in power marketing, hydro operations, renewable generation forecasting and operations, energy scheduling, electronic tagging, position management, vendor management, streamflow forecasting, risk & forward hedging, resource procurement, outage management, commercial transmission operation and planning.
  • Experience in people leading/direct report management.
  • Knowledge of BPA Federal Energy and Transmission system including key Points of Receipt and Delivery
  • Familiarity and expertise in OATI suite of applications including Websmarttag, CTRM, WebTrader, WebcalcSH, WebSmartOASIS, and others. Familiarity with other deal capture and ETRM software can be substituted provided the experience translates to ability to provide value utilizing SCLs current software suite.
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging federal, regional, state, and local regulations. This include existing and proposed Carbon and Cap-and-Trade regulatory initiatives.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to energy procurement, trading, and operations strategy.
  • Ability to resolve counterparty-related disputes and after-the-fact settlements.
  • Experience creating and leading high performing teams.
  • Proven analytical expertise to support power marketing strategic position within the bilateral and EIM market.
  • Expertise in working with cross functional teams that provide robust analysis to support senior management for decisions related to key strategic initiatives for the utility.
  • Ability to generate reports, create and modify marketing specific dashboards, and synthesize/integrate necessary operational and marketing data to support long-term strategic operational strategy.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $50.65 to $88.13 per hour.
