Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is located in the lab of Dr. Ozioma Okonkwo, within the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Okonkwo co-leads the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) Engagement Core, which is dedicated to 1) increasing the engagement of underrepresented populations (URPs) in the landmark ADNI study; 2) cultivating a competent workforce to work with URPs; and 3) investigating ethnocultural disparities in dementia.

The Engagement Core is excited to bring on an energetic and skilled PhD-level scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with members of the Engagement Core team to identify and address critical scientific questions related to recruitment science and health disparities. Such questions include, but are not limited to, investigating the frequency and etiology of biomarker and cognitive profiles across ethnocultural groups, and understanding the extent to which biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors modify such associations. They will also use the very rich and multifactorial ADNI data to generate and tackle additional questions of scientific interest to them and the team. They will organize their findings into presentations for both lay and scientific audiences, generate manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and as needed, participate in grant writing. Additionally, they will supervise and mentor research trainees. Lastly, the individual will aid in any other research-related tasks necessary for the overall success of the lab.
