Job Description:
Summary/Objective
Program Coordinator is responsible for providing general administrative and specific project development support to the Center for Latin American & Latino Studies. Tasks include helping to maintain the Centers website, blog and social media accounts; planning and coordinating events; drafting and editing correspondence; grant proposals, and website text; managing grants, facilitating the work of research teams; conducting background research; and responding to inquiries and concerns from faculty, outside organizations, funders, and the broader campus community. The Program Coordinator must be able to function independently with minimal supervision, have sound judgment, a professional demeanor, and be project/task oriented. This is a one-year renewable temporary position.
The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Director for the Center for Latin American & Latino Studies. This position works closely and supports the Assistant Director, Finance and Operations when required, and other staff associated with the projects housed at the Center for Latin American & Latino Studies. This position helps to supervise and coordinate the workload of student assistants
Essential Functions
Communications
  • Manage Centers communication strategy in coordination with current Program Coordinator. Monitor listservs and produce the Centers bulletin and weekly blog posts. Independently manage the creation and editing of the brochures and website pages.
Program Support
  • Prepare contracts for commissioned research of all grants. Provide general research support on various projects under the direction of the Director, Research Associate Professor, Assistant Director for Research, current Program Coordinator, and/or PIs.
Coordination of Events and Project Correspondence
  • Coordinate events sponsored and co-sponsored by CLALS including securing space, advertising, and directly handling all logistical arrangements. Lead in drafting or translating invitation letters for guests who are to participate in CLALS events and workshops.
General Office, Technical and Managerial Support
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director for Finance and Operations and other staff in support of everyday functional requirements, including the review of budgets and payments as necessary. Train and actively manage graduate and undergraduate assistants in carrying out their delegated tasks.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience
Preferred Education
  • Master’s degree

  • Student assistants, in coordination with Director and other staff
Salary Range:
  • $26.47 – $40.72 per hour, commensurate with experience.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English preferred
  • Office management skills;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Outlook; facility with technology and familiarity with email distribution lists; knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, Commonspot.
  • organizational skills;
  • Experience in project and event management;
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be dependable and exhibit sound judgment and professionalism
  • Must be able to function independently with attention to detail and minimal supervision
